Review of the Mineral Fusion Mattifying Primer

Mineral Fusion Mattifying Primer- $28.99:

Here’s the quick SCORECARD breakdown. Each question is rated on a scale of 1 to 5, 5being the best:

1. How do the ingredients look? What’s inside?- Not so great. See below…

2. How’s coverage?- 2: It didn't fill in lines or even out tone for me. It was super smooth and somewhat lightweight. It felt like a silicone film on top of my skin at first.

3. Does it last all day?- 3: It lasted, yes, but I didn't see enough of an impact in terms of controlling oil or giving me a matte look.

4. Is it non-irritating?- 1: Oh no! After wiping this off at night, my skin became so red and inflamed, warm and not normal. So I tried this one more time and realized after removing the primer from the equation, I no longer had that reaction. Such a bummer!

5. Does it blend well with other products?- 4: It didn't streak or pill when wearing with a foundation.

6. Is this a consciously-created product? 3- It's vegan and cruelty-free which is a start. The packing is not full recyclable. Details below.

7. Did the product do what it promised to do?- 2: It didn't follow through for me unfortunately.

  • There were just too many cons to outweigh any small pro here, even price

  • I'd spend $10 more for 100% pure any day of the week

  • Ingredients didn’t cut it on the ‘clean’ front for me

  • Performance was lacking

  • Irritating formula for my skin

  • Would I buy this again? No, thank you. I’d rather use the 100% Pure Luminous Primer any day. It also comes in a matte version! So if you’re looking for that, which, you probably are if you’re searching for this product, check it out!

These were the not-so-great ingredients that didn’t pass the Rule of 3. Click below to find out all the details. Keep in mind, the percentage of these ingredients in the products MATTERS! I rarely take ‘scary’ scores on EWG at face value these days, and always ask the brand about to clarify if I’m concerned. Works like a charm! See their response.

I asked about whether packaging was sustainable and about their mica sourcing-

"-uses a foil that is not recyclable, however the inner component is recyclable. We’re currently launching new packaging for our skincare line that addresses this issue.”

MICA- “Our supplier sources Mica exclusively from the USA (Georgia), and is an active member in the Responsible Mica Initiative (RMI), a group driven to eradicate child labor and support traceable, environmentally friendly processes."

THE BOTTOM LINE FROM BRITT: I do hope they reconsider packaging and formula.

I pull these directly from the brand’s or reputable retailers’ website. You’d be shocked at how many product pages have misspellings so if you see one, you’ll know why! I didn’t catch it. Neither did the retailer. What’s missing: percentage of ingredient used & the amount of evidence/data backing up each number rating from You can search the EWG SkinDeep database to find the data available behind each rating.
