It's Time for the Top 5 Shopping List, But First, This Leather Biker Jacket, I Mean, C'mon...Love

You've got to love any shopping list that starts with a leather biker jacket. The 'Yarrow' jacket from Muubaa is beyond. Follow that up with the next pick at bat, the twisted bracelet from Iosselliani, and there's your color for the day. After there, the list segues into the world of accessories with a classic everyday satchel and tough-stuff pair of Pedro Garcia heels. Finally, a printed shirt from Thakoon Addition that pulls off a strong print in a very wearable way.

1.

This jacket is my budget's kryptonite and Muubaa is my new addiction.

2.

I love how you can get all of that color into a twisted metallic bracelet. It's a substantial piece, and totally different from anything else I've seen out there.

3.

The Chloe heels from Pedro Garcia are the kind of shoes you either love or hate (although, I'm not sure how anyone couldn't love 'em, hence them making the list). I happen to love the gladiator-esque-ness of it all back to a skinny leg pant or legging.

4.

This is the perfect everyday satchel at a price you will not be able to beat. I realize that line is borderline informercial-sounding, but it's totally true. Click through to see it worn crossbody style as well. Bonus round.

4 Selma Satchel

5.

This silk shirt is a whole lot of print. I'd recommend pairing it back to something simple. A brick red skinny jean would work well.

quotes

Right, so I'm putting a Lady Gaga quote on the site, not because Gaga said it, although I'm a fan. It found it's way onto this post because it bears repeating.

There is one thing I'd like to edit though. I'd like to substitute 'others' for the word 'men.' I think it works just as well.

Follow the leader is a game best left on the school playground. There's so much more to be learned by listening to, rather than following others. Take what you like, toss the rest, and go with your gut. It's the only thing that will get you where you, yes you (not them), want to go. In other words, you are your own North Star.

Today's Shopping List a.k.a Five of My Favorite Things, Trust.

Today's shopping hit list is making me extraordinarily happy. I love all of my lists, but every now and then, one just seems to come together, the products (stars) align, and there's something that makes me want to scroll up and down again and again. Completely mesmerized.

I wish I could figure out how to re-create this fashion flow every time, but I've come to the conclusion that it's an organic thing, so for now, I'm just going with it...

1.

Cowl neck jersey top, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Oh wait, I can't, because this post would end up being a never-ending list of numbers and that's just boring after awhile. So here's some cowl neck eye candy:

2.

Ob-sessed, and I am NOT, repeat, NOT alone. The all-caps situation is meant to inspire you to get a sense of shopping urgency because I'm not sure at all how long these heels are going to be around unless they do a re-order. Which, eh hem, Free People peeps, you may want to consider. Just call J. Campbell and see if he has a few orders that cancelled with the big guys right? Just sayin. It's the buying office in me rearing it's ugly, yet oh-so-stylishly-coiffed head yet again.

3.

I've definitely seen less-expensive versions of this ring silhouette before, not that this 'block' ring from Bittar isn't a great deal. But there's something to be said about the quality and originality Alexis Bittar serves every season. The colors, designs, all of it, are beyond unique and always inspiring. The below ring makes me think of holding a daiquiri in my bronzed, perfectly-bejeweled hand, while lying on a beach somewhere absolutely gorgeous. Be back, must go visualize...

Should you ever need a pick-me-up on a rainy, cloudy, overcast day, here's your shirt. Keep whatever you pair with this boyshirt from Madewell toned down to a minimum so you don't throw every color in the spectrum at the eyes of on-lookers. Less is more, and three brightly saturated colors on this silk shirt are plenty. Yum.

Five picks are all well and good, but that is the tip of the shopping iceberg. See what else didn't make today's list but deserves it's rightful cameo on the site via the StyleShaker Closet:

In keeping with the less is more, keeping it simple theme, I thought I'd go with the below quote from one of the most brilliant minds out there, Maya Angelou:

Shout out to all the control freaks out there, I get you, you're my people, but seriously people, we need to lighten up a bit, live a little, I'm talking baby steps here. Five minutes to day dream, an hour reading a book, taking an unknown route to work, or god forbid incorporating color into your all-black, all-sad-face wardrobe.

Loosen up the grip, let something bigger take over, and trust that when you need to pull the emergency brake, make the move, take the leap, you will (totally quoting my good friend Justin on that one, so cheers to you).

How to do this? Do something. Reference the list above or just go for something you can't know the outcome of, I'm talking small here just to start. It's like a mini-trust fall, sans actual fall and arms smacking into your back during a camp exercise post-ropes course.

Either way, if you don't let go, you won't know that everything will be ok. If you don't know that everything will be ok (usually because you can make it so by using you're very own thoughts inside you're very capable brain), you won't let go, and so goes the cycle. Let life show up for you, you can always grab the reins again tomorrow.

Shopping List! | Tori via Generations Collective & her Top 10 Picks

One of my favorite pieces to the not-so-complicated StyleShaker puzzle would have to be the dynamic shopping lists. They are all hand-picked pieces living in the StyleShaker Closet, that run the gamut across all fashion categories from shoes to dresses, tops to denim, jackets to jewelry, and the list really does go on.

When I go into a store for myself or my clients, I hit the ground running like I would at my Whole Foods down the street (shout out). The list is a crucial part to this, telling me what I'm looking for and where to get it. Sure, there's definitely playing-dress-up moments and random browsing, what's life without things like that right? But the list keeps me on point, focused and able to walk out of wherever I am (or sometimes click out since this girl loves her on-line shopping) feeling good about what is on it's way to me or in the bag I'm obnoxiously swinging from my hand (there may be skipping involved, but that usually happens when I'm with my clients/friends and there's wine involved).

My second favorite thing about The StyleShaker you ask? The people I get to meet. Collaboration is key and brings amazing ideas and  outside perspectives to the table. Whenever someone asks to contribute to the site, the first step is usually them submitting their wishlist/shopping list from our hand-picked, heavily edited 'Closet' of goodies. I always love to see how it comes together, and this time around is no exception.

Meet the one-woman powerhouse behind the blog Generations Collective, Tori:

Tori and I met via IFB and she was kind enough to send over her own Hit List, aka top 10 picks and why she fell in love with each. She pulled together this fabulous montage in her Generations Collective aesthetic (which is why I had to have her as a contributor on the site in the first place), so check it out and read about why Tori chose each piece below. Oh, and shop of course!

From Tori:

Fall is just around the corner. For someone like me who loves the Summer, it’s a little bittersweet, but there are some things I’m looking forward to in the coming season. Being able to wear faux fur and flared pants are immediately what come to mind, along with Fall colors and fabrics. I’ve chosen some favorite pieces from Style Shakers’ “What to Wear” that reminded me of the feeling and vibes I’m looking forward to in Autumn.

The shopping list line up:

1. Andros Wide-Legs - Anthropologie

Like I said, flares flares flares. I am crazy about bell bottoms, and these ones are a great color for Summer and Fall. Add a high waist and I'm in love.

2. MINKPINK Wisteria Lane Dress - Revolve Clothing

If you know me at all you know that I am obsessed with florals. I don't care which season, what the weather, I will be wearing florals. I think this is an adorable floral dress, a great transition piece.

3. Rachel Zoe Delfina Silk Chiffon Pants - Saks Fifth Avenue

I can't get over how beautiful this is. The movement, the color, Fall fashion at it's finest.

4. Angie Panorama Twill Pants - Piperlime

Another terrific pair of flares, these ones even more suited for Fall, being that they're thicker and a deeper warmer color. :)

5. Muubaa Charme Aviatress Jacket - Boutique to You

Another love of mine: shearling. I love the aviator style of this jacket. Nothing is more perfect for Fall than leather and fur in one.

6. Rosalina Heel - All Saints

I have been obsessed with wooden heels lately. I adore the look of them, and they are perfect for autumn- the color, and wood reminds me of the trees and the falling leaves.

7. Kendra Scott "C and y" Allison Earrings - Endless

I love the color of these earrings, they're so bright and fun and could add life to any outfit.

8. Hudson Dress – Tibi New York

I adore this dress. I instantly loved it because I thought of it as a perfect transition piece in between Summer and Fall. The colors and beautiful and I love the leafy looking print on the bodice.

9. Burnt Sienna Shag Jacket - Anthropologie

I LOVE faux fur. So far I own two faux fur coats but I cannot get enough. This is one is a great Autumn color too.

10. MISSONI Deep V Long Sleeve Dress – Forward

I am crazy about the print of this dress. The print plus the colors scream “Fall”.

And there you have it. Tori's shopping list, her top ten picks, and hopefully some inspiration for you, the reader, because at the end of the day, that is what it's all about.

How to Wear | Printed Pants (& Jeans)

Unless you've been living under a rock or have been attempting to run in the opposite direction from this trend, printed pants and jeans are here for Spring/Summer 2012, and let's just say, a little how-to-wear direction should be more than welcome. There's a fine line between uber-trends like this one. Sometimes the well-meaning, on-trend print, can take over the entire ensemble, let alone the woman wearing it. That said, I took a little blogger/tumblr inspiration and kept the rest of the look relatively neutral to allow the print (in this case paisley) to pop without going completely overboard.

Speaking of getting inspired, here's the look that started it off, a muscle tee that lets the print pop (source: www.y-cle.tumblr.com) :

And now it's time to take the inspiration and make it into a look, the magical shop by number moment that spells out how to wear it:

1. T By Alexander Wang Slub Muscle T-shirt (shop online: www.farfetch.com)  2. Citizens of Humanity Avedon Paisley-Print Low-Rise Skinny Jeans (shop online: www.net-a-porter.com)  3. Greta Patent Leather Bow Heels (shop online: www.anntaylor.com)  4. Kenneth Jay Lane Havana Link Necklace (shop online: www.lastcall.com)  5. House of Harlow Long Arrow Ring in Rose Gold (shop online: www.boutiquetoyou.com)  6. Ray-Ban RB2140 50 Sunglasses (shop online: www.zappos.com)

I love the easy t-shirt layered over the printed paisley Avedon skinny jeans from Citizens of Humanity. The masculine edge of those two pieces is softened up by the addition of some patent strappy sandals and a tortoise-link, KJL necklace. Finish it off with a House of Harlow ring that is about one click away from being an addition to my closet, and finally, some classic Ray Ban sunnies that scream summer, and you're all set.

If paisley isn't your thing, no worries, like I said, printed jeans and pants are a huge trend right now so there are options out there, to say the least. Here are just a few more that I've hand-picked to keep the shopping momentum going. Click away and get inspired:
