The top is clean, classic, and has a little bit of flare at the sleeve which you can use to balance out proportions on top. Perfect for Pear Body Types.

BOTTOM_whyitworksheader(1)

The pants, everyone needs a classic black trouser. Pears, this counts for you, times ten. Tailor it to fit through your hip and thigh without pulling (size up and then have it taken in if need be). The slight flare at the hem will balance out your hips.

REST_whyitworksheader(1)

The belt cinches in right at your narrowest part, your natural waist. A cuff is great, but you could also do a statement earring to draw attention upward, a little trick for Pear Body Types out there. Keep the clutch for some color, or swap it out with a tote to wear to work. The sandal gives height, match it up with the hem of the pant so it doesn't fall too low or too high. A flattering hem length hits right in the middle of the top of the arch of your foot. You could also substitute a pump, and use the shoe as your pop of color while you keep the bag neutral.

Get My Look | What I Wear When I'm Trying, But Not Too Hard

It's ironic how, when you try to look like you're not trying, sometimes the best ensembles float up to the fashion surface, you know? I mean, there are definitely those times when nothing is working and after an hour you leave a wake of destruction in the form of three-quarters of your closet's contents strewn across your room, bed, bathroom, etc. Frustrated from trying too hard and attempting to now throw in the towel, raise the white flag, and come up with some excuse to not make it out that night.

That's one end of the spectrum. On the other side there's the get-dressesd-on-a-loop approach. The rinse and repeat that leaves you wearing out that same old ten percent of what's hanging in your closet because that's what's easy.

The point I'm going for is smack dab in the middle of these two styling scenarios. It's the point when there's definitely effort, but you don't feel the need to go overboard. You want to look pulled together, but you still want to look and feel like you, i.e. comfortable and hopefully, confident. This is the kind of look that, in my mind, achieves just that. It's a happy medium of polished and distressed, classic and creative, yin and yang, peas and carrots, wait...

Bottom line: This is what I wear when I'm trying to pull something together, but not into trying all too hard.

If there's one thing I've learned after ten years in the fashion industry, and this is also a great metaphor for life, it's that, when you push too hard, try too aggressively to get that square peg into a round hole, you end up feeling less-than. More importantly, you end up missing the entire point.

Loosening your grip a bit allows for space, and when you make space, new ideas are able to move in and out freely. Cue: evolutiona and growth. Sometimes we try so hard to get a look just right (or anything really) that we're missing out on all of the remarkable goodies that are right there in front of us waiting to be seen. We're too busy trying to perfect, to fit into a trend that doesn't fit into our personal style.

All I'm saying is, go with what works for you. If you don't know what that is, contact me. For now, what's working for me is the combination of a classic silk blouse with a slightly distressed short that reads, "casual," but with the addition of a few key accessories works it's way into an evening situation. I love when that happens.

The accessories pull it together, show I care, while the foundation of a button-front top and denim shorts keeps me grounded, or in this case, not trying too hard, but rather, going with the flow:

what I wear when I want to try but not too hard

Style Tutorial #5 | 1 T by Alexander Wang Red Button Front Shirt, 5 Ways to Wear It

Style Tutorial #5 started at the sight of T by Alexander Wang's, tomato-red, button front, crepe shirt. It's simple, clean, colorful, and classic which means, editing down the tutorial to just five looks was a challenge. This video could have gone on for days people...Days.

t by alexander wang shirt img

Often times, whether I'm doing a one-on-one consultation or group Styling Session, guests and clients ask me what 'essentials' they need to have in their closets for the season. It's kind of the million dollar question.
I've found that this 'core closet' as I call it, is really the key to every, single, wardrobe. Having the perfect basics for your body type (and knowing where to shop for them) as a fashion foundation allows you to tap into and wear one hundred (not just twenty) percent of what's in your closet.
This shirt from T by Alexander Wang is one of those basics. Sure, it's in a bold color, but it's not magenta, it's not highlighter-lime, it's a rich, tomato red which to me, can be as neutral as navy, olive, grey, or even taupe. It's just a more exciting way to wear a classic silhouette. Equally as versatile.
Don't see it yet? Good. The point is to show you something you may not have thought of, but your part of this is to remain a bit open to the possibilities. You've got nothing to lose.
That's what the Style Tutorials are all about: showing you new ways to wear pieces you see out in the shopping stratosphere so you can take the inspiration and incorporate it inside the walls of your own closet. Should you need a helping hand, a style translator to help you fine-tune your fashion language, I'm always here.
For now, it's video time. Take a peek at the latest, the five ways to wear this one sophisticated shirt:

PEARS: Looks 1 and 3 are where you'll be playing along here. The top layers will balance out the volume on the bottom of this sleeveless dress, evening things out a bit. Always, always wear a heel on this look.
RECTANGLES: All-skate. Feel free to pick from look 1 thru 5. This is a dress that will give you curves without going overboard so play a bit with the different ways you can pull it off.
HOURGLASSES: Looks 2 and 5 are your friend. This dress is only going to accentuate the classic hourglass shape you're working with so keeping things as simple and streamlined as possible will be key. Again, heel heel heel. Not a flat moment for you.
APPLES: Finally, my apple ladies. Look 2, 4 (if you have the height) and look 5 are where you will be living when it comes to this line up. The bottom half of the skirt will balance out the inverted triangle proportion your working with. If you're petite in stature, avoid look 2 at all costs. It will do the exact opposite of elongate you. As for the other two looks, have at it and do a little twirl in that scuba dress.

Sleeveless dresses are just one fashion sub-category of sooooo sooooo many. There's always more where that came from. Style Tutorial #3 | 1 Joie Top, 8 Ways to Wear It

Time for another StyleShaker Style Tutorial. Put down the blue books and No. 2 pencils people. This is all about soaking up some inspiration. No pop quizzes. Promise.

Main IMG Template

The Joie Berkeley silk top was a recent find that I had to play with and serve up, Mix Master style (i.e. think of Cher's closet from the movie Clueless and you'll understand a bit more of what I mean when I throw down terms like 'mix' and 'master' all in the same sentence this early on a Monday morning). The bottom line on this top? It's just too versatile not to create looks with. Let alone the fact that it's a universally flattering silhouette.

First things first, here a quick intro, from me, to you, on what today's post is all about:

Like I said, one top (from Joie) and eight, count 'em, eight ways to wear it. Here's the Lookbook Video:

PEARS: You're all about Looks- 2,4,5, and 8. The trick here is to balance out your silhouette with what you're wearing on top, AND, keep a heel in the equation to elongate. So, if you're going the skinny jean route, the Joie top is a perfect piece to pull off the look. Leave it loose and untucked. And again, keep a higher heel to keep extending the eye-line vertically.
RECTANGLES: All skate. You can pick and choose your favorite look, 1-8, and try it on.
HOURGLASSES: Look 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are your friend. Look one is too much fabric for an hourglass silhouette. You can pull it off, but it's not the best look to accentuate your classic shape. Look 3 is going to flare a bit at the waist so if you're watching your hip action, go for the pencil skirt look as an alternate.
APPLES: Finally, my Apple ladies. Looks 3, 5, and 7 are going to be the looks you should gravitate towards. They are the perfect mix of clothing and accessories that will help balance out your inverted triangle proportions seamlessly.

Silk shortsleeve blouses are just one fashion category of sooooo sooooo many. There's always more where that came from. Check out the pieces that are pulled each week while digging for my clients. Style Tutorial #1 | How to Wear Tank Tops. 1 Rebecca Taylor Tank, 5 Ways to Wear It

Style Tutorial #1 comes into focus and shows you how to wear tank tops. In this case, it's all about a printed, floaty tank top (courtesy of Rebecca Taylor) just in time for rising temps. One tank, five ways to wear it, and that's just me warming up...
I decided to bring in a little Style 101 to the StyleShaker via some inspired videos that are short, sweet, to the point, and remarkably reminiscent of Cher's closet computer from the movie 'Clueless.' Seen it? Know the one I'm talking about? Have you been dying to figure out how to do that for yourself since the late nineties like I have?
Ok fine, maybe I'm alone in my obsession, but it was worth every minute of analysis when it came to figuring out how to replicate it.
Here's my version, an approach on how to (and a couple of how-not-to moments) wear one pick, in this case, a Rebecca Taylor tank that's at the top of the summer shopping list. Click play and see pieces slide in and out of the picture so you can literally watch how many looks can come from this one, incredibly versatile tank.
It's about optimizing your closet, a concept that is the foundation of my approach with every one of my clients (get the details on what I do here) I have that comes to me asking for some inspiration on new ways to wear what they have hanging in their closet. This is also about bringing it back down to earth. These looks are polished and fashion-forward, but above all, they are wearable and approachable for real women out there. That's the goal, SO, enough of me going on and on, check out the video and keep scrolling because there's plenty more to go thru here, read: see how each works for your body type.

Here's the big picture when it comes to how to wear tank tops, a summer essential. One tank, five ways to wear it, and go:

look 1: This look works well for every body type, there are just a few tweaks to make in each when it comes to accessories. For the Pears out there, this is a GREAT look. Keep the heel height up there and avoid any shoes that cut you off at the ankles (i.e. thick strap gladiator sandals, etc). Rectangles, you're good to go. Hourglasses, if you're fuller on top, a great way to streamline would be to incorporate a streamlined blazer (black, maybe a few sequins for evening to pop the look, or just keep it clean) as a layer over the tank to reel it in and not throw proportions out of whack. Same with our Apple ladies out there.
look 2: This is a universally flattering look. The proportion of the floaty tank back to a clean, polished trouser with a slight flare at the hem is a killer combo. Apples & Pears: Here's a good time to layer on a cardigan if you want to add some coverage or elongate a bit, just make sure it falls to the hip, is tight around the arm, and drapes across the bust easily (nothing too stiff).
look 3: This look you will either love or not be able to look at due to the shorts factor. If you're an Hourglass or Apple, be careful with this one. You don't want to accentuate too much volume on top so you could always substitute something a bit more curve-hugging on top, or even just a chambray button-front shirt to add a bit more structure to the look. Hourglass, Pear, and Rectangle, you're all good to go here. If you're completely shorts-averse, throw in a pair of white skinny jeans and head on your way!
look 4: This is almost universally flattering. Almost. Apples and possibly larger busted Hourglass ladies, bring in another layer, blazer, cardi, something fitted to cinch things in a bit and add structure, OR substitute a tank that is still flowy but with an empire waist or cinching incorporated into it to keep the proportions looking how you want them to. The rest of the silhouettes can have at it. Flats are ok, but not ideal with the higher volume on top and skinny leg.
look 5: Finally, the same goes for this look although, the straight-leg, or really, slightly flared jean, makes things so easy for every shape. This is going to add shape to the Rectangles out there, keep things proportioned for the Pears and Hourglasses, and actually do the same for the Apples.

There's always more where that came from. Check out the pieces that are pulled each week while digging for my clients. They're all lined up, all of the favorite picks from my favorite shopping spots on-line, in the StyleShaker Closet.

Dear Past, What a Week! Dear Future, Time to Tackle My Top 10 Shopping List

Meet my top 10 shopping picks for the week. Let me tell you, between the two new Lookbooks and major packing list compilation for a client's upcoming trip to the Virgin Islands (jeal...if only I could fit into her suitcase(s) as well; note to self, work on improving my contortionist skills), it has been a fun few days over here.

Oh right, there was also that teeny tiny (read:massively significant)  launch of the new Spring Trends Shopping Lists (where I took every trend ever mentioned by a fashion editor or director and narrowed it all down to the top 12 for my readers to shop; it's my Cliffs Notes version).

There's been some major on-line shopping mileage covered and today's list of 10 favorites will directly reflect what the latest fashion focus has been here at The StyleShaker. Prepare for some beaded embellishment, sharp metallics, flowy florals, and more. Enough talk, time to check out today's line up:

(FYI:  No one is paying me to pick these items and/or brands. I don't select a single item I wouldn't buy myself and/or my clients. All selections are unbiased, this is my promise to you. The StyleShaker

Ok, we're moving away from the Shopping List for a minute. Everyone needs a little inspiration every now and then. Something that makes you think. I know, thinking, ugh, such a pain.

But seriously, take a minute and use this time to inhale, get the wheels turning, and reflect. Or just stare and space out, either way, it's a little break and it's good for you, like a vitamin for your soul. I swear I didn't even get that from Oprah, I have no clue where it came from. Espresso does crazy things to me, and for that, I love it even more.

I happened to run across this amazing site, www.behappy.me, the other day and I totally lucked out. Or maybe it knew I had a not-so-hot (diplomatic way to say 'crappy') day and it found me. Who knows, either way, here is what resonated, what inspired me to smile and leave an extra dollar in the tip jar at my favorite coffee spot.

quote

source: www.behappy.me

I was a little torn on this because I happen to believe that when a person says out loud that he or she is 'ready' it means they aren't. It's just a personal opinion based on my own history. I do believe that when the student is ready, the teacher will come. Or in other words, we don't control this one. We don't get to tell the world we're ready, it shows us when we are. Then it's up to us whether we rise to the occasion.

We can say we're ready until we're blue in the face (I say this because I have) but, being truly ready isn't shown in words, it's shown in actions. When you're ready, you don't even think about it, you certainly don't talk about it, you just go for it.

I'm definitely not discounting the whole 'thinking about it,' phase when it comes to change. I'm just saying, we (I) have a tendency to get stuck there instead of using it to our (my) advantage.

How to un-stick yourself? Keep it simple and just take a quick inventory of where you're at right now. I do this every time I work with a client. It's the first step, to see where they're at in life, their wardrobe, their closet, all of it. *Important note: keep as much emotion out of this step as humanly possible. The emotion is tied to the past usually, and this first step is all about getting clarity so you can move forward. Say it with me, "for-ward." Yes. Perfect.

Looking back helps my clients see where they've been and how they got to where they are now. Again, I'm not there to help them dwell in the past, or get stuck in the black hole that is their current closet. I'm not there because they told me they're ready and now they want to sit back and wait, let the universe (or whatever's out there that's bigger than us) do it's thing.

I'm there to hold their hand and inspire action with one goal in mind, to help them feel good about themselves and move towards where they want to be.

Every time I do this with a client (read: friend) it's an honor. I'm catching these amazing individuals at the crossroads of the above two points in time illustrated by today's quote. I'm a witness to them being at the corner of 'Lessons Learned,' and, 'Ok, let's do this.' The intersection between Dear Past and Dear Future...I'll keep going but I feel like I'm getting redundant now.

What I'm saying is, I get to be the one standing next to these amazing women in their closets at the very moment they're truly ready to take on their future. Actually, it's why I'm there. And this is why I can now say I love what I do.

Dear Past,

Thank you.

Dear Future,

Who's next?

3 Looks & New Ways to Wear What's in Your Closet

Today it's all about three new ways to wear some serious outerwear for winter, from a Barbara Bui leopard print fur coat that may lead to instantaneous swooning, to a faux fur vest from Rachel Zoe that can layer into any look you throw at it. Tis the season to bundle up, so you might as well evolve a bit and do it as stylishly as possible right? Or, just take these looks in and get a little inspiration on how to wear what you have hanging in your own closet...

look 1

This is my 'back in black' look that has served me oh so well working in the fashion industry, we LOVE our black. Each pick is tailored and has attention to detail when it comes to structure from the DVF sheath dress to the Mackage shearling coat. The 7 for all Mankind boot combined with the Alexander Wang satchel keep things super clean, sharp and sophisticated beyond compare. The right accessories have the power to do that, it's why they're really investment pieces to any wardrobe. I'd probably say bags more than shoes since it's easier to find amazing shoes at approachable price points than handbags unless you have access to sample sales. More power to you. Finally, those studs add a slightly severe but creative edge. Add in some color using cosmetics with a bold red lip, and you're ready to run the show in this one.

Alexander Wang Jamie Satchel (www.shopbop.com), 5. Tom Binns Hard Wear Small Bullet Studs (www.shopbop.com

look 2

Ah, good, time for a little color after the first black-out look. Nothing like a grey fur vest paired back to a bright printed midi-dress right? Right. I love this look for it's playfulness. Use it as a guideline if you're less into the boho-take on things. Substitute a classic black pump if the wedge isn't your thing, and if you want to tone it down further, go with a solid color dress as opposed to the print. In the end, always do what's best for you and gets you out the door in the morning feeling good about yourself.

look 3

Finally, a leopard print fur coat from Barbara Bui's runway collection that you need to be a certain kind of woman to wear. I love how, when you take away the coat, the look is pretty clean and polished. Sure, I could have gone with a streamlined black blazer on this, but where's the fun in that? This is all about pushing the envelope and playing a bit. I don't feel fashion is meant to be taken too seriously, so might as well have fun with it, take in the inspiration, and if you feel daring enough, change up your own styling habits. Time to kick yourself out of your everyday rut. Go big with leopard, or start small with an injection of color on anything from your top to your tote...

Today's Shopping List Zen Moment: Keep Your Heels, Head, & Standards High

The list has been picked apart, narrowed down, and edited to a 't,' all to get to five more shopping favorites that go from a ridiculously versatile blouse to a silk shirt-dress that makes me want to order a Shirley Temple (a.k.a the drink of my childhood, and what led me to my love affair with red dye #2 & grenadine at an early age) just to coordinate...

1.

This is a go-to blouse that can actually be used as an everyday basic, but looks special thanks to all the small embellishments from seaming details to a an almost-bib like, uber-feminine front. Work this into a professional look by adding a black pencil skirt and pumps, or go weekend casual with a pair of skinny jeans (medium wash, maybe even distressed) and neutral flats. Either way, I love the idea of a red lip with it, in both instances. Red lipstick always feels like cause for a celebration, so sure, it may be putting the cart before the horse, but if you build it (or wear it) they will come.

2.

3.

I wasn't familiar with the name Gianna Meliani until I discovered these heels, and now I'm obsessed. The suede upper is a luxe touch back to the rest of the leather on the shoe. As far as them slipping on, I'm not sure, but for now, that doesn't matter. What's in a product title anyway (my e-commerce colleagues are cringing, I can feel it). Really gorgeous design and craftsmanship, I'll always tip my hat to that in the fashion industry, always. Well done.

4.

5.

Why fix it if it isn't broken, right? This 5 Station Necklace is a signature look from House of Harlow 1960. It keeps coming back for more each season, and for good reason, it just works. I'm a fan of evolving, the Neiman Marcus handbag buying office clued me in on how important it is to not rest on one's 'it-bag' laurels, but when you've got a good thing going, why overhaul? Make new friends but keep the old, I forget the rest of the saying, so on to the necklace product shot:

Ah yes, we've come to quote time yet again, my favorite...Here it is:

This one is for the ladies. Amen on the heels, that's just me, I walk like a duck in flats.

Double amen on keeping one's head high. Life comes at you when you least expect it. Sometimes it can knock you down and break you apart. That's when space is made for the really good stuff you would have never seen otherwise, mind you, at the time of said 'blue period,' the warm fuzzy, sunshine and unicorn moments coming your way couldn't feel further away. So annoying, but it's the truth.

That's the moment when you follow the wise words of the above quote, let alone Tupac, and trust that "you gotta keep your head up." And yes, I just mentioned Tupac in a shopping list post. Take THAT (cue subsequent eye-roll from industry people).

But the most important piece of the puzzle in the above quote, in my opinion, is the 'standards' part. I can't speak for everyone on this so I'll speak for myself. I'm don't proclaim to be even semi-closet a 'Wise Sage' status here, I admittedly have plenty left to learn (thank god or else things would get boring), but I do know that, at this point in my life, high standards equate to respecting one's self, and/or self-worth. If you don't respect yourself, I'm not sure who will. Keep 'em high. It reminds me of a line I just heard, "we get the love we think we deserve." The question is, what do you think you deserve and are worth? Probably not something to dwell on, but it never hurts to ask right?

So, to recap, I've got the heels. Please, let's be honest, I'll always have the heels. My head is held pretty high right now, and for those down days, I've got the backup of some good people around me. Check and check. As for the standards, a year ago it was a work in progress, today, it's what I live by and continue to learn from. Check, and done.

Hello Cap Toe, Double-Chain Elephant Necklace, and Violet Furla Satchel, Glad to Have You on Today's Shopping List

The hits, just, keep, coming. And I love it. I can't get enough actually, which is why you're getting yet another installment of the Top 10 picks to add, immediately (these puppies sell out) to your shopping list. Cue, the montage:

It all starts off strong with a Reiss pump that you'll either love or wince at. I get it, the color is going to grab you whether you like it or not though, so be warned. Proceed with caution if you must, or in my case, with wild-wide-eyed, shopping abandonment. I'll take a picture of that one day so you get the full picture, or actually, probably not a good idea. I don't want to scare anyone, so just come up with your own visuals for now. Speaking of visuals, it's time to serve up the eye-candy and scroll away...

1.

Like I said, there's some major color happening here, let alone a cap-toe moment that's gone all 'disco' on me, and I'm perfectly ok with that. These are what you would call an emotional, impulse buy. It's all about pure, fashion playtime with these pumps so loosen up a bit and enjoy it.

2.

I have been a loyal 'Lovestory' wearer for years now (much to the dismay of my ridiculously fashion savvy friend Sam; she's been trying to get me into new denim for, oh I don't know, a year or two now), and I'll always have a soft spot for J. Brand in my heart, but Mih jeans are moving up fast and may soon trump my go-to denim. The Marrakesh, seen below in a perfect neutral that will go with anything, are a great cut. I can't say much more than that, because it's really just that simple. The cut elongates the leg like nothing I've seen lately, and the quality is on-point. It's a no-brainer.

Disregard the missing 'r' in the bubble please, or wait no, I planned that. It's me having a clever copy moment. Are you buying that? Yea, I didn't think so. Moving along...

3.

4.

If you're going to do a colored bag, and the color is going to be purple, my suggestion to you is to keep it a bit muted. Let's not go all 'Barney,' with our accessories, yes? Right. This eggplant purple satchel from Furla is a great and classic silhouette that can be thrown into a neutral look and will liven things up a bit. Keep the foundation of the look simple so the bag gets it's rightful ensemble cameo. Or go crazy and add it in with a printed, wrap dress and pumps. Either way, it works.

5.

6.

You should really just buy these, unless you have a strong aversion to leopard print, or like me, have a tendency to fall over when flats are slipped onto your feet. Seriously, I'm a little jealous of women who can pull off a flat and walk without looking at all ridiculous. I think I've just trained my foot for heels, unless I'm on a beach and have my flip flops. Closed toe flats, although gorgeous, make me look like a puppy that the owner dresses up like a person with shoes (poor doggies, see what I mean here) and proceeds to walk like Bambi, in circles. Take that, multiply it, and you have yours truly.

My fashion hang-ups aside. I love these leopard print flats for the price and the piping detail in the contrasting coral. They're the perfect shoe to have on hand if you're feet need a break from those heels. I'll grab my flip flops thanks, don't judge.

7.

8.

Job Hazard: I'm a stylist (amongst other things), so I'm constantly pulling together lookbooks and shopping lists for my clients that I consult with. As one would imagine, every now and then, some of the ideas and picks I come up with for my clients tend to rub off on me and my wardrobe. And by, 'now and then,' I mean all the time. One of the latest styling call outs was a pop-color clutch that was desperately needed for an upcoming event involving a classic L.B.D. (little black dress for those not big on acronyms, and if that's the case, then I have no clue how you're deciphering social media but I wish you the best of luck, btw).

Black is a go-to non-color, color pick (I know, it made little sense to me too, but I write how I speak, so it all makes sense in the end, hopefully) for anything evening. I love a good black tank/skinny jean moment as much as the next girl, but that really isn't living up to one's style potential, that's just called playing it safe, or playing it, "I'm way too busy to think about this stuff so I'm just going to grab what I always grab and deal." Scenario number two is why I'm here on the StyleShaker, and what I have built my business off of. So yes, I get both.

Here is one clutch that can quickly solve the problem, in all of it's saturated, cobalt blue glory...

And now, time to take a minute and breathe with a little quote to inspire:

Bah-nanas (I'm doing my impression, Rachel Zoe voice, but you can't hear it). She's absolutely speaking the truth on this one, no pun intended. Whether we like it or not, we are visual people, we take so many things at face value, and pre-judge the book based on the cover. I do it, you do it, we all do it.

So, knowing that, for all the flack and backlash fashion/shopping can get, there's a very strong truth in one's outward appearance being an effective way to tell the world a bit about who you are. Combine that with how the right jacket, dress, pump, etc. can change the way a woman walks into the room, and there's pretty powerful stuff here. Non-verbal communication is no joke.

Why not use it to your advantage? Start small, start with this list, get some inspiration on what people are wearing, try a few things on, and in the end, go for something that makes you feel good about you.

When you care about how you look (all in moderation; I'm not talking vanity here so don't get it twisted), you care about yourself, and in a small way, you give yourself a little love. It can be a very attractive quality to have. What you wear on top of it all is just gravy, important gravy, but the big stuff starts from within.

Figuring out what to wear and wear to shop for it will safely cover the first two parts of any style equation. The missing link to this puzzle lies in how to wear the look.
Clutches aren't going to be too complicated, there's no style science project, but when it comes to covering the finishing touches on any ensemble, a little inspiration never hurts. See a few takes on how to wear the clutch below:

HTW | Get the BCBG Max Azria Resort '13 Runway Look in 4 Steps

I love a good runway look to use as a little inspiration for 'how to wear' the latest trends in fashion. I can pull from collections of Fashion Past, or in this case, the most recent round of Resort picks that hit for 2013, to re-create a look that came directly from the mind of some of our most creative fashion minds out there, in this case, Max Azria and BCBG.

It starts with some maxi dress/blazer inspiration. Here's the hero-shot of the Resort '13 runway look:

source: www.style.com

Now on to the details. How to get the look, and where to buy all the little goodies along the way. I boil it down for you in the shop-by-number montage:

1. Juicy Couture Easy Summer Silk Maxi Dress (shop online: www.bloomingdales.com)  2. Sass & Bide A Matter Of Fact Jacket (shop online: www.us.asos.com)  3. BCBGMAXAZRIA Two-Way Sequin Oversized Clutch (shop online: www.6pm.com)  4. POLLINI Platform sandals (shop online: www.yoox.com)

The loose maxi dress works back to a pulled together blazer to create this soft/tough contrast that I have a habit of being drawn towards in fashion. The interplay between masculine and feminine is a personal love of mine, but evidently, based on BCBG Max Azria's Resort 2013 collection, I'm not alone. I'm in really, no really really, good company. The rest of the look comes together in a few simple steps that throw in a couple of essential accessories from a pair of Pollini platform sandals with a blue streak, to an oversized bronze clutch to keep the metallic hues in the fashion picture.

All in all, an easy look that works well for day (sans jacket, and sub in some lower sandals) and night. You've gotta love a little versatility right?
