Wednesday's Shopping List | 6 Shoe Picks You Haven't Seen Yet

That's it, it has officially happened, I've gone into shoe overload. And yes, it's very possible. And no, it's not necessarily a mindset I would deem unpleasant (quite the opposite actually; figuratively speaking, Imelda and I are like two peas in a pod on this topic). The goal was to get shoe-specific on this one, pick a category, any category, and go with it, but with all the new arrivals out there, it was near to impossible to stay on the straight and narrow be it all pumps, all flats, or all sandals. So goes life, and plus, variety is a good thing right?

Check out the hit list of our top 6 shoes to shop right now that will have you transitioning out of summer temps and into those cool fall nights:

What to Wear, How to Wear It: Leopard Print Charlotte Olympia Boots

What to Wear? It's time to pull out the big leopard-print guns (or boots in this case). Now, how to wear them? We'll get there. First, check out the shoe inspiraton:

3 Ways to Wear Dresses for Winter | Layer Up

Have a favorite dress hanging in the back of your closet and no clue how to pull it off this winter? See three ways to wear the wardrobe essential that is your everyday dress, and get a little inspiration. First, we'll start with a more fashion-forward combination that pulls in a menswear-inspired vest:

look 1

Let the pop of color happen in the handbag, and leave the other layers neutral. This is an updated way to pull off your basic grey jersey dress and add a little oomph. If the tuxedo vest scares you, by all means, omit and substitute a black blazer or oversized boyfriend cardigan.

look 2

Next up, a little layering. I put an open-toe sandal in here just incase these milder Fall temps last for a minute longer, but if not, this would be the perfect opportunity to slide in a foldover ankle boot. The rest of the look plays on the color combo between the Vivienne Westwood dress and the butterscotch brown biker jacket. The scarf is another way to draw in color, as well as the Iscar de la Renta earrings that I can't seem to get enough of right now. This is one way to polish up a rough-and-tough biker jacket...

look 3

Fine, fine, yes, you're looking at a top from Tibi, not a dress, but the length  lends itself to be worn just like a tunic/dress, especially when there are leggings involved. This is the kind of look you wear and can own a room in. It's sharp, there's some edge, but it doesn't go overboard on the intimidation factor. It's just ridiculously sophisticated with a more contemporary twist. I mean, those boots! A drool-worthy additions to any wardrobe.

It's so easy to go back to what we know when it comes to our closets, our go-to pieces that we can rely on, yet may not be how to necessarily put our best fashion-foot forward. But who has the time to figure it all out? Well, I do, and so can you.

The What to Wear Weekly Lookbook started on the premise that most of us are only wearing a teeny, tiny portion of what's hanging in our closet. It's what's easy, familiar, and sometimes kind of dull.

Here's why the Lookbook is growing...My clients send over pics of pieces in their closet they need some inspiration on, I pull them together and send them weekly, personalized, virtual Lookbooks. It shows them ways to wear what they already have that  they would have never had the time to think of, or been able to see. On top of that, they get other goodies like a hand-picked shopping list to fill in any essential closet 'holes,' notes on each look, and a Looks Library they can reference any time on the go. Talk is cheap. Visuals are always best, so see what I'm talking about here and get on the list so you can drop the question, "what am I going to wear today?" out of your vocabulary for good...Trust me, it's SO possible:

In the mean time, all the pieces used to create these three looks are pulled from the shopping gold mine that is the StyleShaker Closet. See more fashion favorites in all categories lined up for your shopping pleasure here:

Shopping List | 6 Boots that Redefine the Category

Today's Shopping List takes the notion of a basic boot and flips it on it's head courtesy of everything from neon pink suede to blue velvet platform action, and anything you could think of in-between. Check out the six stunning variations that redefine what a boot can be:

montage

1.

These Osprey ankle boots are a massive neon injection to any ensemble. Honestly, they made it onto the shopping list for the silhouette as much as the fuchsia shock factor.

1 Rupert Sanderson Fuchsia Osprey Suede Ankle Boots

2.

These wedge boots are edgy to say the least. Sure, they're not for everyone, but that's what makes them beyond interesting. Loving them over a skinny jean or legging.

2 Jil Sander Dark Grey Suede Wedges

3.

3 Rag & Bone Harrow Boot

4.

Nothing like a little blue velvet to bring something new to any look. With that heel height and platform, these boots realistically aren't made for too much walking, but they sure are pretty.

4 Jill Stuart Meade Velvet Booties

5.

Such a great way to take a basic wedge boot to another level. All it takes is a touch of fringe to add a little oomph without going overboard.

5 Ziah Fringe Boot

6.

Saving the best for last with these See by Chloe Slouch Ankle Boots. Gorgeous and perfect back to a legging.

Six boots will certainly get things warmed up, but there's so much left when it comes to all things shoes. Imelda, beware, the list goes on. See the rest of the best shoe picks that find their way into the virtual StyleShaker Closet every week, and keep the shopping momentum going strong:

What to wear? Check. Great, but what about how to wear it? You can't really have one without the other when it comes to style. The million dollar question is, "what am I going to wear today?"

It can wear you down, I get it, it's actually why I created the What to Wear Weekly Lookbook. My clients send over pics of pieces from their closets and get personalized Weekly Virtual Lookbook (along with so much more, including a one-on-one consult with Yours Truly to create a style profile; i.e. it's me, not an algorithm) that shows them how to wear what they have. Where you see two looks, I will show you dozens, it just takes a fresh perspective from a fashion industry veteran. See what you get and all the good details here:

Inspiration comes in many forms, shopping and product just being one of them. Sometimes it's a line from a book my friend just recommended to me. Case in point, here's today's Zen moment:

quotes

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately. Could it really be as simple as being present and grateful for this very moment right now? I'm not sure, but Niequist's quote has me thinking twice, and for that, I adore her & her amazing writing ability. What do you think?

Deep thoughts aside, it's time to get back to what to wear, how to wear it, and where to shop for it, all right here.

3 Looks & New Ways to Wear What's in Your Closet

Today it's all about three new ways to wear some serious outerwear for winter, from a Barbara Bui leopard print fur coat that may lead to instantaneous swooning, to a faux fur vest from Rachel Zoe that can layer into any look you throw at it. Tis the season to bundle up, so you might as well evolve a bit and do it as stylishly as possible right? Or, just take these looks in and get a little inspiration on how to wear what you have hanging in your own closet...

look 1

This is my 'back in black' look that has served me oh so well working in the fashion industry, we LOVE our black. Each pick is tailored and has attention to detail when it comes to structure from the DVF sheath dress to the Mackage shearling coat. The 7 for all Mankind boot combined with the Alexander Wang satchel keep things super clean, sharp and sophisticated beyond compare. The right accessories have the power to do that, it's why they're really investment pieces to any wardrobe. I'd probably say bags more than shoes since it's easier to find amazing shoes at approachable price points than handbags unless you have access to sample sales. More power to you. Finally, those studs add a slightly severe but creative edge. Add in some color using cosmetics with a bold red lip, and you're ready to run the show in this one.

Alexander Wang Jamie Satchel (www.shopbop.com), 5. Tom Binns Hard Wear Small Bullet Studs (www.shopbop.com

look 2

Ah, good, time for a little color after the first black-out look. Nothing like a grey fur vest paired back to a bright printed midi-dress right? Right. I love this look for it's playfulness. Use it as a guideline if you're less into the boho-take on things. Substitute a classic black pump if the wedge isn't your thing, and if you want to tone it down further, go with a solid color dress as opposed to the print. In the end, always do what's best for you and gets you out the door in the morning feeling good about yourself.

look 3

Finally, a leopard print fur coat from Barbara Bui's runway collection that you need to be a certain kind of woman to wear. I love how, when you take away the coat, the look is pretty clean and polished. Sure, I could have gone with a streamlined black blazer on this, but where's the fun in that? This is all about pushing the envelope and playing a bit. I don't feel fashion is meant to be taken too seriously, so might as well have fun with it, take in the inspiration, and if you feel daring enough, change up your own styling habits. Time to kick yourself out of your everyday rut. Go big with leopard, or start small with an injection of color on anything from your top to your tote...

These looks are exactly what I create for my clients who are members on The StyleShaker. There's only two differences, their looks use pics of pieces from their actual closets, and their virtual Weekly Lookbook is completely personalized to their individual style profile. I could go on and on about all the goodies you get when you sign up at under $20 (gasp, I know), but instead of telling, I'm just going to show you. Click below:

What I'm Wearing | Wine Chat at the Mansion on Turtle Creek, Cheers to the Pencil Skirt

What I'm wearing to a wine chat you ask? Better yet, what is a wine chat? Well, a good friend of mine let me in on this weekly event that happens at one of my all time favorite Dallas institutions, the Mansion on Turtle Creek. The wine chat involves a good crowd of people who are there to try out whatever the sommelier feels like serving up at the time. A selection of Oregon Pinots? Sure. Italian reds? Um, yes, thank you. You're at the mercy of one of the best sommelier's out there, it's not a bad place to be at all. Actually, it's my new favorite place to be whenever I'm in town.

Since one can't hit up the Mansion on Turtle Creek looking like a slouch, it's just one more excuse to dress up a bit. Some would look at this scenario and cringe at the thought of having to put a look together. Trust me, I get it. The name of the hotel, the Mansion, let alone the interior once you step foot inside can be completely intimidating.

I worked at Neiman Marcus for a decade so I know what intimidating can look like from the outside. Thanks to NM, I also know what lies underneath the surface, and it's usually some pretty interesting stuff. If you're busy overestimating others and underestimating yourself at the expense of what you assume and imagine their grande lives to be like, you're missing out. Trust me.

We're all human, and sure, egos can flare now and then, but at the end of the day, I don't let the intimidation factor ever stop me. Instead I welcome a little discomfort because I know that those moments when you think you won't fit in, when you think you're totally out of place, are the ones that force you to be yourself (says the girl who moved so much she experienced the joys of being the 'new kid' more than a few times).

Some chose to go in the opposite direction, mind you I don't recommend this path of putting on the facade because most of us can smell a fake a mile away. But, when you get authentic and when you open up to what the best, and not worst case scenario can be, you'd be amazed at the experiences you can have, let alone the people you get to meet.

So, my focus for the 'wine chat' look is going to be the pencil skirt. I'm a big denim girl, but every now and then, I do love dressing up and getting in touch with my more feminine side, wine always helps with that.

I shopped my closet first, it's a step I always recommend my clients take as well, and found my favorite color block pencil skirt from BCBG. This puppy is super-snug, body con, but actually incredibly comfortable. I wouldn't have kept it otherwise. After that, I went through and hand-picked pieces out there that complete the look (all of which I can also find similar copies of in my closet, or if not, I can certainly go for a quick shop before tonight). Here's the look:

At the beginning of the week, I reference my 'Happy Place,' my library of looks to use as inspiration, and start to narrow things down based on the upcoming week's agenda. Below are the picks I threw together for the Wine Chat night at the Mansion (god, that just sounds so Gatsby no?).

I went with look number twelve at the end of it all, opting for a pencil skirt. Again, these looks are used as inspiration, just to get some ideas. You'll notice I left out the super-saturated color. I was feeling a clean, slick, black ensemble moment for the evening so I went in that direction. The pencil skirt is really what stuck from the runway look to the real world. It only takes one picture to inspire countless looks, hence loving my Looks Library. It's my fashion gold mine.

Like I said, the Mansion on Turtle Creek is an institution in Dallas. See why in a couple of images below. The hotel that's a work of art.

First, the entrance. The solo term romantic doesn't seem to do it justice, but it's what's coming to mind right now...

mansion1

Next, the Library where the wine will be served and sipped down, all in the name of appreciating the good things in life and who knows, making a few new acquaintances (did I mention the wine chat is actually affordable? cause it is..see, don't make assumptions until you know the details; speaking of, click the link below to find out more).

So there you have it. I took a pick from my closet, and built an entire look out of it that I can replicate on my very own. All the energy I would have spent stressing about what to wear can now go into enjoying every sip and catching up with some friends while making new ones...This is why I do what I do.

It's not for me, but it started with me. After all, why sell a service that I don't use myself? I love to share so naturally, I started creating these Virtual Lookbooks for close friends and family. From there, the list has grown. It continues to grow, so be sure you sign up sooner or later to try out your very own virtual Lookbook that will show you how to wear what's hanging in your closet in ways you may have never thought of yet...Get started, I know, it's a little ridiculous and I may have to raise it, but for now, as of January 2012, you're getting a great deal.

But don't listen to me, see what others have said. Oh and while you're at it, see why  you would want fashion advice from little ole me in the first place. All very good inquiries that I would have myself before signing up.

In the mean time, get more inspiration on what to wear, how to wear it, and where to shop for it (all so you can start dreaming up what adventures you'll have in your new looks) right here.

What to Wear | 5 Looks That Will Inspire You To Change It Up a Bit

What to wear? You've got options. I love creating looks, especially for my clients when I get to use actual picks from their personal closets and show them countless ways to wear them they would have never dreamt up. I started doing it in my own closet as a method of survival while working in the land of luxury fashion. Ten years and hundreds of looks later, I now get to share what I love and help simplify life a bit for clients who can now spend the energy they were putting into 'what am I going to wear today?' on actually living their lives. They can walk into their day feeling good about what they have on, and consequently, feel good about themselves. It's a win-win.

Styling 'mush moment' aside... Sometimes I just cant stop creating these looks and a few favorites end up without their rightful cameo on the site or in a client's What to Wear Weekly Lookbook for one reason or another. So, now's their time, and no one is stealing their thunder. Check out five looks that will hopefully inspire you to switch things up a bit with what you have hanging in your own closet...

Happy New Year! Happy New Top 5 Shopping List...

Today's shopping list, and hence the new year, starts with a super-rich take on red, all in a blazer, thanks to Rag & Bone. Next at bat is a hammered gold cuff that is nothing like any other cuff you've seen (which is saying something; they're everywhere). Kenzo makes an entrance with a bright leather and cotton bag that is at the very least, a conversation starter, and Givenchy brings us boot perfection. Finally, to top it off, French Connection serves up what I lovingly call the 'power dress.'

The gang's all here:

main post montage template 4_top

1.

Red anything, and I'll take two please. A red blazer from Rag & Bone, and I'll buy stock in the product. Aaaaand, I'm in love.

1 Rag & Bone Rag & Bone Exclusive Sliver Blazer

2.

You could get two and pretend like they have magical powers. No? Ok fine, one is plenty. Is this not the most interesting hammered gold cuff you've seen in a long time? I know...

2 Hervé Van Der Straeten Hammered Gold Plated Cuff

3.

Half-conversation starter, half-piece of art to wear on your shoulder. I adore Kenzo ready-to-wear, and now I can add their handbags to the list. A happy addition to say the least.

3 Kenzo Le Dix-Huit Tejus Leather And Cotton Bag

4.

Picture a black ankle boot. Ok, now see how to really pull it off. I'd say I can't even take it, but I can, and I will.

4 Givenchy Shoe Boots

5.

Now you can pull off the shape of a tank dress for Fall/Winter. Talk about accentuating the hour glass shape, I mean, this is beyond.

Zen moment:

quotes

It's really a sick joke life can play on you. And yet, it happens. For type A personalities like myself, this Warhol quote can cause an even greater level of frustration. The kind that falls right in-between pulling your hair out and rocking back-and-forth in the fetal position. Get the picture?

Everyone tells you to let go. There are songs written about it, novels, websites, self-help books, movies, and the list goes on. And yet, I still couldn't tell you how to figuratively let go of something you've held on to for a long time. I just don't know how to do it, outside of changing one's focus from the proverbial 'there' to 'here.'

If you have an easier way of loosening one's grip, by all means, make this a forum and share the love. For now, this is a zen moment that's all about reflection. There's no black and white here, just that lovely grey we all know and love.

I will however, leave you with this. Words written by someone who has obviously put far more thought and care into the 'art' of letting go:

At the most practical level, pushing continuously against resistance burns down our available reservoir of energy, and makes us less capable of doing anything well. Beyond that, pushing too hard can end up getting you what you think you want, only to discover, too late, that there was a good reason it didn't come together in the first place. Resistance is an early warning signal.

Check Out Today's Handbag Heavy Shopping List, a.k.a. the Love List

Today's shopping list is a bit bag heavy, and by 'heavy' I mean there are two bags I had to get in the line up. Once you see them you'll understand why. But the bags are the only thing to drool over, lest we forget the embellished tank, boots that make every sidewalk a catwalk, and a necklace that oozes all things sweet and sentimental. So, let's get started:

The top five shopping list is our attempt at editing and simplifying the shopping process. It's our little 'less-is'more' moment on the StyleShaker. But let's be honest, there's plenty more that didn't find it's way onto today's list. Speaking of, check out the other fashion favorites currently lining the virtual walls of our StyleShaker closet. One should never shop A. hungry, and B. uninspired. I'm not sure how I can help you with the food, but I can serve up a little inspiration via a Henry Ford quote that is the definition of timeless:

quotes

It's pretty true. I'll keep it short and sweet. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. And yes, sometimes we just need to get out of our own way. When doubt seeps in, and it does for all of us (we're human; give yourself a break) I have learned to lean on my friends and family. They're my re-set button, reminding me of who I am and what I'm capable of.

Surround yourself with your support team, tell them, or better, show them you love them, and re-charge yourself so you can get back to doing what you know you can.

Today's Shopping List | From Feathered Booties to Cat Eye Sunnies, The Gang's All Here

I just realized I haven't had any sunglasses up and running on the StyleShaker shopping lists as of late, and for no good reason. For shame.

I will say however, that Tom Ford's Bardot Cat Eye sunglasses make up for any accessory deficit there was. Follow those sunnies up with a feathered ankle boot, the perfect jumper from Wildfox Couture, and a leather jacket to put all other leather jackets to shame from none other than Mackage, and today it shaping up to be a very good day...

And if there ever was a time to get some quotable inspiration, now would be it right? Right. Cue a little enlightenment from the complex mind of Edgar Allen Poe:

quotes

Why save all of your dreams for when you're eyes are closed? Seriously, when you walk down the street (or through the halls of the office building, etc) with open eyes, truth really can be stranger than fiction.

It may just be me, but when I get down to some creative writing time (which is never enough in my everyday life), I've penned some pretty interesting stories of characters based (not even close to loosely) on the people I've worked with over the years. These day dreaming moments were my sanctuary in the middle of board meetings that would include forty page decks punctuated by hundreds of bullet points each explained by one monotonous voice or another.

My imagination saved me on those days. Without it, I'd probably have turned cubicle-beige on the inside, and that's just not right.

Make it a game. Try to find something extraordinary in the ordinary today. It's easier than you think.

Coach serves up another tote that just works. It's substantial enough to throw around throughout the day, and polished enough to look like you care without going overboard.

1 Coach Bleecker Suede Utility Tote

2.

All Saints, know the name, love the name. These are leather jackets to covet and invest in, case in point, the Standon jacket below. The look, a side zip and collar details, is very 'biker-esque,' so if you're streamlining then keep moving, but this is an amazing, swoon-inducing jacket to have in your outerwear line up.

2 All Saints Standen Leather Jacket

3.

These are the kind of weekend-warrior boots that will get you from A to Z and still look like they're supposed to. Not too polished, not too distressed. Meet the happy medium of leather boots from Rogue:

4.

Men and their watches. I'm still trying to get this, and yes, I am starting at the lower end of the price point spectrum, but c'mon, I'm not ready to throw down a Cartier just quite yet. I'd like to know what I'm talking about and right now, I can safely say you get plenty of look for the price when it comes to Marc by Marc Jacobs' watches. It's a great line to start with and build upon...

This jacket is perfection, from the collar to the cinched waist that you will probably hardly ever use (leave it open when it's a touch warmer out). Belstaff serves up the quintessential Fall jacket, done and done.

Zen moment, and today it's short and simple...

Such a great line, so much so that I think it should be said daily. So here's your little exercise for the day, your mission should you choose to accept it: when you read that line and one person pops into your head (or two, or three, or four, etc..) tell them. Tell them you love them to the moon and back, just because.

It's SO much better than a gift on their birthday or holiday. This is the unexpected 'trinket' gift, the best gift of all in my opinion. It's not obligatory, it's not planned, it just lets the ones you love know how much you appreciate them, just because they are who they are.

So, there it is, take it or leave it. I would suggest taking it and running with it though. I'm going to...

Just sayin.

Today's Shopping List: Silk Dresses, Swirly Margaritas, & Advice from Ovid

From sheer silk shirts to drawstring satchels, the gang's all here. Check out the latest shopping list of hand-picked fashion favorites, five to be exact, all line-up here to get you inspired...

1.

This dress reminds me of a salty-and-sweet frozen drink I've grown to know and love while living in the crazy city of Dallas, and that is, the 'swirl.' Technically, I have no clue what the name is, but after two years in the buying office and too many late night trips to down a couple of these to take the edge off, I'm just going to stick with 'swirl,' because it works. The ombre on this 'Alana' asymmetric dress hits the mix of sangria and margarita perfectly. I highly doubt Acne would have thought their work would be identified with a margarita, but inspiration does come in all forms. The dress itself is both striking and flattering with draping right where you want/need it. A great start to today's list if I may say so myself, and I may...

1 Acne 'Alana' Asymmetric Dress

2.

Me-ow. Love a leopard print ankle bootie, let alone anything Charlotte Olympia comes out with.

2 Charlotte Olympia Alice Shoe Boots

3.

Meet the perfect, 'floaty' blouse to wear over your skinny jeans or even elongated straight-legs with a little flare at the bottom (super-flattering and more approachable than it's skinny sibling in the denim family).

3 Mara Hoffman Printed Silk-Chiffon Blouse

4.

Drawstrings are all over the place, and this bag, although it claims in it's product title to be too hot to handle, is just the opposite. Handle it, handle away. It's one of the best representations of the cinched satchel trend that I've seen out there, walking the fine line between trendy and wearable oh so well. Translation: you'll be able to wear this for far more than one season.

4 Marc by Marc Jacobs Too Hot To Handle Drawstring Bag

5.

Wake up time! This jacket has me drooling. My Pavlovian response is not attractive, but I'm willing to forgoe saving face when it comes to this. I have no choice really, I'm in love and in full swoon-mode. Can you blame me? Ok, if you're the woman who goes for black every day all day, I have a dare. Get this jacket (or one just like it), work it into your next work-day look with a white tee and wide leg black trousers or skinny pants, and wear it in. People may possibly think you are having an identity crisis, but trust me, when they see you in it, they'll be begging to have a little 'crisis' of their own. Mix it up a bit and throw a little color into your life.

Time for a little zen moment, yay! Sit back, relax, and soak it up...Or just detour and keep shopping, it's up to you:

quote copy

It's true right? When you're 'in it' it's difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The pain and suffering we go through is often avoided at all costs, but in the end, or at least I have found, there's really no other way to get back to living your life than going through, not around, these tough moments.

I read something else awhile back, I'll have to try and remember where it came from, for now I'll throw it out there. The analogy had to do with an obstacle of a large wall placed directly in your path when you least need it, when you're at your lowest and think you can go no further. You know that wall, in one form or another. It's a huge pain in the ass and can lead you into a discouraging downward spiral. We all have our 'walls.'

The analogy continued by praising that wall, because if that wall weren't there, we'd never know how high we could go or how bad we really want something (clarification: wanting something with genuine intentions is what I'm referring to).

Like I said, when you're in it, that wall looks impossible to scale. The thing is, you don't grow in spite of tough times, you grow because of them. The concept here is to use your pain in a way only you would know how.

That's when you find out what you're truly capable of. I say this to you as much as I say it to myself. I'm learning to put this into action every day, whether  in a small or big way.

When the going gets tough (cue: the eighties song from Billy Ocean, can you hear it in your head? I can, sorry about that) it helps to have some support. Friends, family, etc are the go-to's on that. But what  you wear can also be a catalyst. It's why I adore fashion. When you can clear your closet, make space for beautiful new things to come in, and roll out in a dress that makes you feel like a goddess, a blazer that has you walking an inch taller along with those new peep-toe pumps, you empower yourself with one more ace up your three quarter-length sleeve when it comes to life's challenges.

Imelda, Beware. 5 More Shoe Favorites to Add to Your Shopping List

It's time to get down to some shoes on the weekly shopping list line up. Case in point, today's list of five hand-picked shoe favorites that made their way into the category mainly due to the swooning that ensued after one quick glance of the below images. See what we're talking about...

1.

This pump is essentially shoe candy. Is it realistic? Not at all, not even close. Since when does rational reasoning stop any woman from making the emotional purchase once she has fallen in love with said pump? Yea, it doesn't and it never will. B Brian Atwood is the diffusion line from the designer that churns out drool-worthy shoes every season and tis 'Fonatanne' colorblock pump is no exception. Seriously, I'm hypnotized, give me a minute and I'll get back to you...

2.

3.

Belle by Sigerson  Morrison is a solid go-to in shoe land without a doubt. These 'Krissy' pumps hit the nail on the head, taking what could have been a classic silhouette and adding a little oomph with an ankle strap and heel detail. Love, love, love...

4.

5.

Western wear has come into the twenty-first century. Isabel Marant helped out a bit with her recent collection, and Mango is following suit, covering the same look at a pricepoint that doesn't make you need to decide whether you get the shoe or forgo electricity for the month. Isn't it great when you get the look and the price? It's the shopping one-two punch...

Fashion isn't the only thing that can inspire out there, I know, it's shocking. There are also some quotes that find their way onto the site, the good ones that resonate and serve up our beloved zen moment everyday. Here's what's on the menu today:

That's the tricky thing about those wants and dreams you've held in your pocket for all these years, they involve that whole 'stepping out of your comfort zone' thing. That's actually one of the main reasons why so many people have a tendency to want and never really act or follow through on these desires.

Fear of the unknown is just that, fear of something you know nothing about. So why then, do we flip out if what we think we're afraid of is totally unjustified and all in our heads? When did not having done something make that thing something to fear? I'm not sure when this happened for me, but I do know it found it's way into my head over the course of my time on this planet and I'm kind of over it.

So often, the tendency is to look at the unknown and see only the 'what-if's' that fall on the glass-is-half-empty side of the equation. What about the glass-is-half-full train of thought? Why do we so easily toss that to the side when the negatives are just as unknown as the positives? I have no clue, and I'm certainly not going to figure this out in the next paragraph, but the questions are worth asking.

Sometimes questions are the perfect place to start, just don't stick around there for too long because the answers are never what you expect them to be (if you're lucky enough to see them when they're staring you in the face to begin with). At one point or another, you're going to have to take a step outside of everything you know, and why not? That's when things get interesting...

Post-Turkey Detox Shopping List | Bring On the Accessories

Today it's all about accessories on the top picks pulled for the shopping list, which, mind you, was a smart move seeing as how there would be no way I could realistically write about apparel after last night's mass-consumption moment.

So, as we're all in a little bit of detox mode with Black Friday on our minds, I've decided to stick to a few gorgeous pieces, a little bit of calm in the middle of the shopping storm.

Did I fall in love on my last trip to Paris? No. Did I have a brilliant time with an unexpectedly close friend I happened to meet after several trips to California? Yes. Did we wake up to strong coffee and two croissants every morning and then proceed to walk it all off before wine at lunchtime? Yes and yes. I discovered the gold 'Paris Love Ring' from Mademoiselle Felee (the designer will soon launch a customized line of bracelets that can be personalized, bonus round)on Boticca, and instantly fell in love with it's simplicity, let alone the fact that it's made by hand. Who doesn't need a little reminder of what life is all about on their finger to look down at in the midst of the daily grind right? Love this, pun intended.

1.

2.

J. Crew manages to churn out some of the most eye-catching and approachable (really decent price points) statement jewelry every season and this resin link necklace falls right in line with that. I'm a huge fan of maxing out the number of looks in your closet by combining basics (a solid core closet is key, trust me, it's also the biggest challenge I have when building a wardrobe to style-out for my clients, but it's well worth it) and switching up the jewelry/accessories involved. You can take a basic black crew-neck tee, throw on some skinny jeans, and turn it into a viable cocktail look with this necklace and the right shoes/clutch. It's so simple, and not seemingly so, it really is a no-brainer.

3.

4.

When it comes to black boots, I have a tendency to go for two things: first, a slight platform, second, I have yet to move in the way of the stacked-heel trend so I keep it a bit more stiletto. The stacked-heel is a great alternative, and a more comfy giving a more even distribution of weight, but for now, my eye goes towards bit more streamlined, cue, the below high-heeled boot from Casadei. I'm also always going to advocate investing in a great pair of black boots, spending a bit more, and then holding on to them for as long as you can. The high-maintenance (not really high at all, just don't trash 'em) is well worth it.

Five picks are never enough, and I totally understand that. So, keep the shopping momentum going strong and take a look at what didn't make this round on the hit list, BUT, the items, the hand-picked pieces that still found their way on to the shelves lining the virtual StyleShaker closet here:

What? What's that? Oh right, it's time to take this shopping-centric post and flip it on it's fashionable head with a quote that caught my eye:

I think this one applies to more than just finding love. I think it can actually be applied to several aspects of an individual's life. There are things that  you shouldn't have to question in your life after awhile. Sure, I'm a massive, huge fan of taking a step back to reevaluate what I'm actually doing, I do it every few months to see where I'm at and if my actions are in line with what I want, or more importantly, if what I want is clear to  me. Most people avoid this introspective moment like it's the plague, but I digress...

So I'm going to flip it: If you love him, you'll know. If you don't, you'll be confused. Apply that to anything...If you want the job, you'll know. If you don't you'll be confused. Or, if you think she's your friend, you'll know. If you don't, you'll be confused. The point I'm getting to here is, that most of the time, you already know, you just need to hear yourself out.

Split Screen | 2 Ways to Wear Iro's 'Kristen' Jacket

Today's styling Split Screen, is all about taking one, fabulous, lust-worthy Iro jacket (I mean, the collar, I'm all over the collar), and showing you two ways to wear it. Trust me, I could keep going but there's this thing called consulting that gets in the way sometimes.

That said, I'll keep it simple. One piece, two ways to wear it. The options are always there, use this as a little inspiration to guide you on how to wear what you have hanging in your closet:

Look one is all about a little polish. The jacket was practically begging for a pencil skirt. The grey/navy combination is effortlessly chic, in any situation, on any body. The collar on the Iro jacket is noteworthy, definitely, and adds some interest to the look, but that wasn't enough for me, so I threw in a pair of red, leopard print, kitten heel pumps. They speak volumes, but not at too high of a volume, which is exactly what I was going for.

1/IRO Kristen Jacket (www.shoplesnouvelles.com), 2/Reiss Simia Textured Bodycon Skirt (www.reiss.com), 3/Lodis Grey Python Print Leather Convertible Satchel (www.shirise.com), 4/Loeffler Randall Tamsin Classic Pump (www.loefflerrandall.com), 5/Giles & Brother Cortina Leather And Brass Cuff (www.net-a-porter.com

And now on to look 2, the more casual of the two.  Colored denim was in order, and for good reason. The grey, back to this washed, plum color on the Mih skinny jeans works well. You could go with a basic blue dark wash, but this is way more fun don't you think? That said, if this isn't 'you,' and you wouldn't feel good in the ensemble, go with what you know works. It's about you feeling confident walking out the door, not trying to fit into someone else's view of what's on-trend. Still, if you're searching for what works and defining your personal style, I encourage you to branch out, try on, and see. You have nothing to lose. Finish it up with some classic black accessories and you're good to go.

Today's Top 10 Shopping List Adds Go High/Low from Balenciaga to Mango & Rick Owens to Tibi

Today's top 10 shopping list picks are lined up and ready to go...

As you well know by now, I love a good list. Should the word shopping precede the word list, even better. It all starts with the fashion pick grid:

The name of the game for today (and really, everyday for me) is high/low shopping. It's pretty simple. Mix in some high level investment pieces with a few basic lower-pricepoints (low shouldn't equate to poor, disposable, quality here) on your shopping list, and your bases are covered. I'm sure you've heard it all before, nothing new, but it doesn't hurt to have a quick refresher now and then right?

Speaking of, let's get started on the list with a strong shopping pick from Balenciaga. I mean, c'mon, gorge-ous....

1.

I usually sway away from the thought of blowing mass quantities of cash on a trend-driven look, but then again, shopping can be an emotional thing, practically Pavlovian. See the Balenciaga pump below, and before you know it you're drooling. It's instinctual (unless of course the neon pink/tangerine orange color combo makes you want to run screaming in the opposite direction). This one is about inspiration. I'm all about investing in the real deal, just not at the expense of missing a mortgage payment. Option B: just take it in, let the color wash over you, and shop more shoe favorites for something that feels just as colorful and significantly less painful when adding to your on-line shopping cart. I get it, but I also appreciate noteworthy fashion, regardless of price point. Blame it on ten years at Neiman Marcus.

2.

So here's the 'low' when it comes to high/low. Low is referring to price and not at all the look, don't let the negative connotation of the word fool you. You get major bang for your buck on the 'low' end of the retail spectrum when it's done right, . A label is just a label, whereas style can be found on several levels using the label for a little direction (not the definition of what style actually is). For instance, Mango is a solid label I happen to adore. There's a lot of look for what you shell out here. And let's be honest, when will I ever turn down a tuxedo blazer like this one? Um, not going to happen.

3.

4.

Pleating, a hugely transitional green hue, and a cinched waist. Need I say more? No, but I'm going to because I can't stop myself. Tibi is a go-to for me when it comes to finding pieces that have amazing color, print, and universally flattering cuts. My one caveat on this Guinevere dress, if you're bigger than a C-cup, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. The pleating at the front will separate according to your shape, which for some is a great thing, but for others (i.e. those with amazing racks; crude, but true) the dress loses it's overall aesthetic and goes from romantic to a bit distracting in all the wrong ways.

Other than that, this is a gorgeous dress to wear through Spring, into Fall with a cardi, and through winter with some tights and boots. Seasonal, definitely.

5.

Ob-sessed with this chain link necklace. So you think I would have figured this out by now, both parents having worked in the retail industry, me having spent the past decade in luxury fashion, but no. I took the scenic route to my own styling evolution, and finally decided that jewelry (or really all accessories) are the best, and I mean best (most efficient as well if you want to bring out my inner-organizational nerd), method of pulling together a basic look and making it your own. When I consult with my clients, I repeat the significance of a solid core closet, stocked seasonally with go-to quality wardrobe basics, to the point of sounding like a broken record. It's tough fashion love. But once you have your core, all you need are some amazing jewelry picks (cue the Adia Kibur necklace), scarves, wraps, you name it, and you can extend your wardrobe from 10 to 20 or 30 looks. No joke. It's not only possible, it's genius. Again, took me awhile to get here, but now that I am, I'm all over it like white on rice.

6.

7.

Hi, hey, what's up, ready to see the most amazing suede clutch ever imagined by a designer? Am I building it up too much? Do I care? Nope. In, love with this Matthew Williamson clutch for all the delish details. You've got to be a fan of green, and unfortunately, now that I'm looking at it, also yellow, which saddens me solely because those are the colors of the Green Bay Packers and I'm not a fan (if I lose a couple of readers on that one, so be it).

I grew up in the Chicago 'burbs, amongst several other areas (retail, not army brat if you must know), but while cities changed, my arch football nemesis remained the same, the Packers. Once a Bears fan, always a Bears fan, which is saying something because I know nothing about football, hardly ever watch the games (first and ten huh?what?) and couldn't tell you who's currently having a good season (mind you, I live in Texas at the moment, so to say that I don't fit into the culture would be a massive understatement). I do recall my older brother an I doing the Superbowl Shuffle in the '80's though, and to me, that's enough.

I can't even believe I'm talking about foozball right now in the middle of featuring a Matthew Williamson clutch. I think I've gone off the deep-end. Need, to, find, my, way, back...Fringe lining! Ok, I'm back. Sorry about that.

8.

Rick Owens, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways, starting with a cold-shoulder, draped jersey top that is going to be my no-brainer, going-out-for-cocktails-or-what-have-you, top. Rick Owens is a favorite, and I'm not talking price wise (ouchie), but there's something about his style aesthetic that is on-point. It reminds me of how every woman will always have a 'thing' (secretly or not, it happens at least once in a lifetime; own it) for the 'bad boy.' Rick would be the bad boy in this equation. You know you should watch yourself, maybe take a step back, but you dive in head first, and indulge anyway. You have to.

The exception here is, with Rick, once you get to know his designs, the thrill stays. In fact, it only gets better the closer you get to the designer's work. With a real-life bad boy, the opposite is usually the case. It gets old, fast. Been there, won't be doing that again, but it was so worth it.

9.

10.

And finally, a Tibi tank in a ridiculously 'pretty' pink silk that I normally don't go for. The shape borders on halter with the racer-back, which is a hugely flattering line for most body-types. Tip: bring out the strapless or bandeau bra in a fun color if you're wondering. It's just simple, that's why I love this tank. Throw it over some skinny jeans, toss on a massively gorgeous statement necklace, and let the compliments roll in. Sure, that's not entirely why you're wearing it, it should make you feel good first and foremost, but little love notes never hurt throughout the day. Make sure you pay it forward.

Time for a little quote action. All this talk about love and 'bad boys,' has me thinking about the good ones out there that I've been lucky enough to meet and have in my life.

She says it so well you know? And it's so, damn, true. Or at least for me it is.

These quotes obviously hit the StyleShaker pages because they resonate with me, but always in hopes that they will do the same for you, or at least get you thinking. Fashion is wonderful, it's the air I breathe, but there's more to life (gasp) and it's important to keep it all in perspective. I get carried away with a Balenciaga bootie as quickly as I do with a quote from Marilyn Monroe. Both are loves in my life, and there are plenty more out there. I encourage you to find yours, or at least, reacquaint yourself with what you love, cause it's in there. It definitely can't be found externally in those ridiculously long Monday meetings, or the power point decks that go on for days (why people, why; you know you'll lose my interest after slide 3). You won't find it in those excel spreadsheets that cross your eyes, or the beige-covered cubical walls that, ps, are not walls at all.

Look inward, the good stuff is always there, living in the non-beige part of you. Go find it.
