The top: The layer of the blazer over the lace dress works for your type for a number of reasons, one of which happens to be that Rectangle body types can carry off additional layers on top with the help of your column-like frame. A little added volume isn't going to hurt you, as a matter of fact, it helps bring some balanced proportions out of the woodwork. See how the blazer is slightly cinched and fitted? Right, that also helps to define your waist. Throw that back to the horizontal seaming details on the waist of the dress, sort of a double empire (not to be confused with a double rainbow), and you have even more waist-flattering details already sewn into the look. You don't even have to lift a finger, or (more importantly) do a crunch.

The bottom: Depending on your height, the hem on that dress is either going to make the cut for the workplace or be held for after hours. Outside of that, the fabric falls slightly away from the body, adding even more shape into the mix which is like fashion catnip for a Rectangle Body Type, or should be.

The rest: The black and cream going on with the blazer and dress is just asking for an injection of color right? Right. So, if we're going to bring things into a different end of the color spectrum using the pump, let's keep the bag neutral. Less is more. Plus, that way you can pop a red lip for the look if you're feeling bold, or, if you need the motivation to throw down during your presentation that day. Nothing works more like a superhero cape than the perfect shade of red lipstick. Blot to soften a bit, it is daytime after all. When you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good, you're bound to get some seriously powerful work done. Top things off with some gold accents, courtesy of a little wrap around ring and an elongated, tassel necklace.

The ONE thing you need to know: The blazer needs to stay along the lines of the above cut and not tread too far into oversized, boyfriend territory. You want to find the curves not let them fade away under it all.

I'm a Rectangle Body Type, Looking for Something to Wear to Work

The top: Rectangle body types, you can and should accentuate your top half in any fashion equation. The lapel on this IRO jacket creates a little volume on top which will add some curves to your naturally straight shape.

The bottom: This is a trend-forward take on the classic pencil skirt cut. There's a little texture in there which will balance out what you're accentuating with the jacket on the top half of the look. Go with a basic black if you're office is beige-land, or by all means, liven the joint up a bit with an injection of color. Speaking of color...

The rest: These pumps are just one example of how you can play with your pumps. It's a personal, and completely emotional decision that is completely in your hands. Go with something that feels good, above all, you need to feel comfortable in what you're wearing so the look doesn't end up wearing you. That said, these looks are here to inspire you to step a smidge outside of your everyday fashion routine. Take pieces here and there, cross-reference what you have in your own closet, and baby step your way to an upgraded personal sense of style. A grey shoulder bag and neutral, edgy cuff will keep it pulled together while adding a little additional 'oomph' to the look.

The ONE thing you need to know: There's plenty of print and texture going on here. When it comes to the pencil skirt, keep it colorful but subtle. If you're going to pop some serious color on the bottom half, back to that jacket, make sure you go with a more basic pump. This works because the under-tones on each piece, minus the shoe, blend well together. Blues and grey naturally complement one another. The red is in there to shake things up a bit.

The top: The blazer is going to add some volume where there may not be much when it comes to the column-like Pear body type shape you're working with. The statement necklace also helps with that. The top of the dress buttons down to a v-neck which is one more reason this look works in your favor. The v-neck will elongate, not that you need any more of that, but it doesn't hurt one bit.

The bottom: The hem of the dress falls away from the body slightly so it will create movement, be ridiculously comfortable, and also add some volume on the bottom half of the fashion equation which will balance out proportions for you. Love, that and so should every Rectangle body type out there.

The rest: A clutch, for work? Really? I know, I know. The clutch is there as an add-on that will make this look versatile and that is a very good thing. Go for a classic black tote or shoulder bag (shop options in the closet, they're always coming in so you're covered; see the link below), pop the clutch in there, and you're set to transition into happy hour. It's not rocket science right? This should be easy, don't forget that. The pump is a classic. Stick with something streamlined and easy there. If you want, you could also go with a neutral peep-toe or possibly strappy sandal depending on the season of course. If you want to go further into Fall, throw in an opaque tight, keep the pump, swap the white blazer for a black leather moto version or just a classic black blazer, toss the belt, and you're good to go.

The ONE thing you need to keep in mind to pull this off: Make sure if you're wearing a dress with very little definition and structure, that you have either a belt or top layer in the form of a fitted blazer or cardigan to create some curves for your Rectangle body type. Never, ever throw on an oversized cardi, boxy blazer, or other piece that will swallow you whole. You'll lose any flattering aspect of the look and that's just really sad, let alone a waste of a perfectly on-trend, pop color dress.

The top: Rectangle body types, use this dress well. The print and the built in waist definition are your friend. Make sure if you layer with the blazer that it isn't too boxy. You're going to want something with a bit of streamlining and construction to it that will create an hourglass-effect.

The bottom: The hem of the dress is pretty narrow. Usually we'd edge you towards more of an a-line or something that has a bit more volume. This works for two reasons: first, you have the waistline seam distinguishing between the top and bottom half, and second, there's a bold print that actually curves for you. Love when there's a little eye-line trickery right?

The rest: The nude shoe is just going to extend the long & lean'ness that is your Rectangle body type. Not super long? Not a problem, that's where the heel comes into play. Boom, height. You can also go with a black d'orsay pump (check out the Closet to shop more options, link below) as well if you want to polish it up a bit. From there, the bag and jewelry (just earrings in this case) are toned-down so you can let the print on that dress have it's day in the sun. No need to overwhelm here, less can be so much more.

The ONE thing you need to know to pull this look off is the previously mentioned note about the blazer. It definitely shouldn't be too boxy on your frame. You have a naturally straight shape that needs some great construction (courtesy of layers and seaming details in this look) to bring out your best. If the blazer swallows you whole, gets too boxy at the hem, or runs to parallel to your column-like silhouette, you're just going to go in the opposite direction of flattering. So, go for something a bit more body-conscious. It doesn't have to be super-snug mind you, some great seaming detail will do.

I'm a Rectangle Body Type, Looking for Something to Wear to Work

Rectangle body types, here's a look to wear to work that will elevate your office's style quotient in 4 steps:

stylist notes

The top: Rectangle body types, your frame works well back to a fitted dress like the Reiss option above. The seaming detail at the waist will cinch in your torso and the straight lines of your silhouette can handle the tighter fit through your chest and arms.

The bottom: The great part about the pleating on this dress is that it will add a little volume to your lower half as the fabric falls slight away from your body. To balance that out on top, you can always bring a statement necklace or drop earring into the equation. Try whatever you think will bring the drama without going overboard for an office look.

The rest: The accessories on the rest of this look are sim-ple. It's tempting to take such a simple cut when it comes to the dress and want to jazz it up a bit with bells and whistles. It's an option for Rectangles, but the overall look and feel we're going for here is a clean and polished one. The accessories, from the butterscotch leather shoulder bag to the grey faux suede pump, are right in-line with achieving that style goal A chain bracelet that falls over the fabric on the fitted arm is a great option to tie the look together and make it your own. Jewelry does that so well. You can take something so basic, throw a few key baubles into the mix, and boom, you have an original, well-thought out look.

The ONE thing you need to know: If you're feeling like a pump isn't going to cut it as the temps continue to drop, Rectangle body types can certainly pull off a heeled, knee-high boot on this one. Go with something in the brown family to keep it soft. And make sure the heel is a streamlined one at that. You don't want a bulky boot with a stacked heel when you have a dress with these classic lines. When it comes to the shoe situation, just know you've got options.
