Rectangle body types, here's a fall take on how to wear a skirt for sweater weather...

The top: This sweater is a classic that every body type can work with, not just Rectangles body types This is just one of those knits that belongs in everyone's core closet of seasonal essentials.

The bottom: The print on the a-line tweed skirt brings something to this table when put back to the simple, cream sweater. Rectangles can work a print, a slight flare courtesy of the a-line, and everything else going on, easily back to your naturally straight lines. The volume that the sweater serves up on top balances out with everything else going on below the waist.

The rest: The fringed ankle boot, in the neutral grey, takes the look into colder temps instantly. Rectangle body types, especially those with some height, can pull off the slouchy boot hitting right at the ankle. It's just one more way to balance out proportions. The satchel is simple, also neutral, so the skirt gets to do all the talking when the fringe isn't soaking up the style spotlight. And then a slight touch of shine, courtesy of a delicate gold bracelet, pulls it all together.

The ONE thing you need to know: If the fringed ankle boot scares you, opt for a heeled, knee-high boot back to a tight, both in chocolate brown. That would be the more classic take on everything. Cover everything up with a neutral trench and you're good to go.

Rectangles, here's a way to wear lace during the day. Think we're crazy? Think again. Shop the look in 8 simple steps:

2endofpost_NOTESFROMINDUSTRYINSIDER_edited-1

The top: Rectangle body types can handle a little extra layering on top, in this case, it comes to you courtesy of a military jacket. The utilitarian vibe over the ultra-feminine lace detail going on in the dress is what we want here. Toughen it up, tone it down, all while balancing out your straight-line proportions. The addition of a scarf also accentuates the top half of your body. This little detail is also going to play a part when it comes to balancing out the look.

The bottom: The dress has seaming details at the waist to create a little added shape. This is something Rectangle Body Types can work to their advantage every time.

The rest: The fringed boot is going to balance out the layers on your top half because it's a bit more substantial than any other shoe that would have simpler, cleaner lines. Fringe is your friend on this one. The bag is big enough to hold everything you'll need for the day and stays neutral in color so it will blend right in. The size and slouchiness also helps tone down the laced-up dress, giving things a more 'daytime' feel. A simple gold bracelet sneaking out of the cuff on the jacket is all you need to polish things up a bit. The right nail and lip color will also help bring the look into focus.

The ONE thing you need to know: Keep the accessories neutral on this one and you'll be able to create a daytime look and feel. If you go bold with something, whether it's the bag or shoe, or even lip color, you may easily cross the line and throw things off.

The top: The sweater has a lot going on. You've got the shoulder embellishment, the open back, plus it's pretty sheer which means you'll most likely be wearing a lightweight tank underneath or bandeau bra, depending on how daring you're feeling that day. Rectangle body types can handle all of this. Everything will add emphasis to your top half, which is a good thing as you move through the look to balance out proportions and add some curves where there may not be many.

The bottom: Shorts are both loved and hated. We get it, some women shudder at the thought of showing off those gams. If you're one of them, opt for a white skinny jean instead. But if you're into the shorts look, go with a pair of brights to bring out the Spring in the situation. The J.Crew 3" chinos are a personal favorite of editors around these parts. Get the longer length if you feel it's more age appropriate, or if it just makes you feel more comfortable. At the end of the day, the point is to feel good in what you have on so if you don't, make necessary adjustments or else what's the point right?

The rest: That neutral wedge is a must. Rectangle body types lend themselves to long and lean silhouettes, so you can afford to wear a flat sandal, or flip flop (with hopefully a little something to it ok?). The wedge, however, is going to give you legs for days. And really, let's  be honest, what woman doesn't want that? From there, the addition of a wooden bangle keeps the spring/summer story going strong. Swap it out for a woven chain bangle, leather, fabric, whatever, just keep it light and neutral because the rest of the look needs to have it's color cameo.

The ONE thing Rectangle body types need to keep in mind when pulling off this look is to make sure the top, whether it's a sweater or tee, doesn't hit too far below the natural waist. You want there to be a clear separation between the two so you can create some definition without using a belt or wrap cardigan. Easy.

Rectangle body types, here's a look that elevate your weekend look in 7 steps:

2endofpost_NOTESFROMINDUSTRYINSIDER_edited-1

The top: Rectangle body types, the top half works for your mainly because it's going to add a bit of soft emphasis to your shoulders with the lapel on the jacket. The stripes are fine on your frame, and the wrap also works since you have a bit more volume on top that's going to allow proportions to balance out with the bottom. Side note: you're going to want to put a basic tee or tank on under this jacket to layer.

The bottom: The boot cut silhouette on these jeans is universally flattering, which means, it works just as well for a Rectangle as it would an Apple. The slight flare at the hem is going to add a bit of volume to the bottom of your leg which will balance out with the jacket on top. Win, win.

The rest: If it's chilly out, opt for an ankle boot instead of the sandal. Keep it clean, classic, and streamlined because really, you won't be seeing much of the shoe under the hem of the jean. A few accessories are always in order, and since you have such a strong neckline with the jacket, it's easy to go with a chain bracelet and statement ring. No need for a necklace that will get swallowed up or distract from the draping on that wrap jacket. The black frame sunnies are perfect for the look, but it all really depends on the shape of your face. These add a bit more of a 'glam' feel to everything whereas an aviator would make it a bit sportier. You've got options which is why having multiple pairs of sunglasses is always a good call. It's a simple accessory that can elevate any look in under a second. Top it off with an everyday tote and you're good to go.

The ONE thing you need to know: You could absolutely turn this into a casual evening look, going out to dinner, or whatever you're up to with just a couple of changes. Put the look on double duty for your Rectangle body type by bringing a great black tank into the picture, and layer it under the jacket which you can wear open. Swap a classic leather clutch in for the tote and bring some color to the face with a pop of color on your lips, one of the quickest tricks in the book when you want to amp up an outfit without going overboard.

I'm a Rectangle Body Type Looking for Something to Wear This Weekend

Rectangle body types, take a Fall look for the weekend and elevate it a bit with the addition of a couple key pieces:

sources: Veda x Madewell Black Leather Moto Jacket (www.madewell.com), 2 Diane von Furstenberg Shara lace-appliquéd wool sweater (www.net-a-porter.com), 3 Tory Burch Classic Tory Bootcut Jean In Rinse (www.toryburch.com), 4 Barrie Cutout Bootie (www.nastygal.com), 5 Rebecca Minkoff Quinn Bucket Bag (www.rebeccaminkoff.com), 6 Susan Caplan Vintage 1980s Givenchy Gold Plated Clip-On Earrings (www.harveynichols.com)

stylist notes

The top: Rectangle body types can handle the details going on here, from the lace-embellishments covering the front of the sweater, to the moto jacket that is bringing some serious edge to the look. Those two layers will accentuate your top half which you will use to balance out what you're doing with your bottom half. This is how you create more flattering proportions that go beyond your naturally straight lines. You've got an amazing canvas to work with, so the styling options are endless. Just one more reason it's good to be a Rectangle.

The bottom: These jeans are a beautiful thing. The boot-cut shape going on is one you need to commit to your memory so every time you're out there jean shopping, you know what to look for. Always have something like this on hand in your wardrobe, whether the wash is dark and saturated or medium and a bit distressed. Both options work well for your shape. Keep one jean tailored to flats and the other jean you can hem to fall over your heels.

The rest: Since you have plenty of things going on between the sweater and the jacket, the best approach to jewelry and accessories is a simple one. You don't want to overwhelm things and distract from the good stuff you have coming together here as far as clothing is concerned. We used a classic stud earring, bucket bag, and easy ankle boot to complement the entire ensemble. Super simple, super easy. This is where having a strong core closet comes in handy.

The ONE thing you need to know: The moto jacket is one way to pull the look together, but don't get stuck there. You could throw a camel or black trench over things and you have a more polished take on a weekend look. Opt for a peacoat and you head into 'preppy' territory, or bring a military jacket into the mix for something that fits  a more laid-back weekend vibe. Jackets, and blazers for that matter, are one of the best ways to add major versatility to your wardrobe. Invest when you can, because you will definitely get tons of use out of this top layer.

Rectangle body types: if you've been trying to up your weekend fashion game, here's how you can do it in 7 steps:

sources: French Connection Lorelai Lace Top (www.usa.frenchconnection.com), 2 VELVET Ruby Army Jacket (www.shopbop.com), 3 J Brand 835 cropped mid-rise skinny jeans (www.net-a-porter.com), 4 ASOS Tumbled Leather Shopper With Panel detail (www.forever21.com), 5 FOREVER 21 Standout D'Orsay Flats (www.us.asos.com), 6 Ray-Ban Polarized Wayfarer Sunglasses (www.net-a-porter.com), 7 Monica Vinader Baja set of two rose gold-plated rings (www.shopbop.com)

stylist notes

The top: What? Rectangle body types out there, I mean really, you've got it all! Well played mother nature, well played. Mini-body type celebration aside, the layering of the military jacket back to the lace embellished tee works well for you because you have a super versatile frame that can carry the extra drama on top (even if it's less 'glam' drama and more 'utilitarian' in nature). Actually, the combination of the tee and jacket will help create some volume on the top half of your body. The look draws a bit outside of your straight lines, which we love.

The bottom: A black skinny jean is an easy way to pull-together a more polished look for the weekend. As a Rectangle body type, you could always go with your everyday blues, or a grey skinny, but in this case, we're sticking with black. The skinny lines will elongate which is a plus for petite Rectangles out there.

The rest: Just because you're wearing a military jacket doesn't mean  you need to fly sans jewelry, ok? Make sure you add something into the mix that shines it up a bit. The masculine/feminine juxtaposition (big word, sorry about that) is a fun one to play with. Lace back to military, streamlined black skinnies back to a bold rock of a statement ring, and so on. Have fun with it and if you're feeling hipster-ish, or just can't find the rest of the sunglasses you've lost to the black hole that may very well be your closet, go with an easy pair of Wayfarers.

On to the tote which takes your classic black variation and flips it on it's head with some added textural details. Put the contents of your life in there and go. You'll get TONS of use out of this, which for the price, makes it an even BETTER pick. For the more petite Rectangle body types, you'll want to go with something a bit more demure like a mid-size, slouchy shoulder bag. You can shop the Closet (if you're one of our amazing members that is; see below) for alternatives. And finally, that flat. We love how the basic flat gets refreshed with one simple ankle strap addition. Take the look from great to, "oh wow, I love those shoes, you look so pulled together," in a snap. What woman doesn't want to hear that? If you don't by the way, you may be on the wrong personal styling website.

The ONE thing you need to know: Not all ages are going to go for the Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses. Go with your gut on this one, you know when an accessory just doesn't feel 'right' for your look/lifestyle. Trust that.

To make this look a bit more age appropriate in terms of sunglasses, Rectangle Ladies out there can easily work an aviator or classic tortoise frame into the equation. It's all about working with the shape of that gorgeous face of yours. Too much? You'll just have to go with it. In the end, you should feel good about yourself as you walk out the door in your weekend look. Make the look work for you and not the other way around. Got it? Got it.

Rectangle body types, up your weekend-casual fashion game in 6 easy steps:

stylist notes

The top: When it comes to a Rectangle body type, long & lean isn't the problem. The key to the top half of this look is the layer of the cardigan that will add a bit of shape to your naturally straight, ridiculously versatile, lines. Wear it open and feel free to layer a couple of pendant necklaces on top if you're up for it.

The bottom: A distressed grey skinny jean is an easy way for Rectangle body types to add a little edge into any look. Your shape can pull off the additional texture going on with those skinny jeans because you have very minimal curves to start with. The distressed embellishments actually work in your favor.

The rest: The simple flat goes d'orsay, as opposed to your everyday ballet. It's more sophisticated in feel, and can work into any look. If you have the height, wearing a flat with a skinny jean will be no problem. More petite Rectangle body types can still pull this off, but to flatter your proportions a bit more, you may want to incorporate a small heel, kitten, stacked, ankle boot or otherwise. The Alexander Wang bag is there to represent your everyday, go-to black handbag. Every closet needs one and you will wear it to death, get it refurbished, and wear it to death again, so try to invest more here when possible. You don't have to break the bank, and there are plenty of amazing faux leather options out there now, just put a little love and attention into this piece of the equation because this bag will be around for the long haul (if you're a Member, you can shop The Closet below and see alternatives). Layer on a few bracelets, metallic or colorful leather, to pull the look together.

The ONE thing you need to know: wearing the cardigan buttoned up is only going to exaggerate your column-like shape. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's not working in your favor. Flatter and add a little proportion where there may not be much, by letting that top later fall away from the body. The lines of the cardigan will work well back to the cut on that tank. It's harmonious fashion for a Rectangle body type. Know it, love it.

I'm a Rectangle Body Type, Looking for Something to Wear this Weekend

Rectangle Body Types, it's time to fill in the fashion blanks with a look that's all about how to upgrade your weekend ensemble in six simple steps.

I'm a Rectangle Body Type, Looking for Something to Wear this Weekend

sources: 1 Line The Infamous cashmere sweater (www.theoutnet.com), 2 7 FOR ALL MANKIND bootcut jean (www.farfetch.com), 3 Mango Leopard Slippers (www.shop.mango.com), 4 ONE by Perforated Large Hobo (www.shopbop.com), 5 AURELIE BIDERMANN Ginko Feather Ring (www.luisaviaroma.com), 6 Kate Spade New York Sailor's Knot Hoops (www.piperlime.gap.com)

2endofpost_NOTESFROMINDUSTRYINSIDER_edited-1

The top: It's sweater weather out there and that means it's time to get cozy without swallowing your shape whole in too much fabric dear Rectangle body types. This cashmere sweater works for you IF the hem doesn't extend too far past your natural waist. If you're swimming in this knit or are more of a petite Rectangle shape, opt for something a bit smaller, fitted, and streamlined. You have naturally straight lines so you want to be sure the sweater you go with doesn't just follow suit. The reason the sweater works, when fitted correctly, is via a nice drop along the neckline with a deep-v that will bring attention upward, AND, the fabric splitting on both sides along the hem will have it falling away from the body, balancing out proportions.

The bottom: These are your basic bootcuts and yes, you guessed it, they're an absolute essential in your wardrobe. Find a pair that fits through the thigh and then flares only slightly at the hem. Once you find the perfect fit, buy 10 of them. Ok fine, two, one for heels and one that you can get hemmed for flats. But if 10 is an option,  go for it. We all have our favorites, but you have to try on to figure it all out. If you're shopping on-line, buy two sizes so you don't have to worry about a time lag should one size you select not be just right.

The rest: The tote is a perfect everyday piece to have in your accessories arsenal. The neutral, putty color makes this the perfect basic for Fall/Winter, and the size of it will allow you to squeeze everything you could possibly need for the day in there. The jewelry is kept relatively calm. It's a weekend look so you don't need to go big when it comes to the shiny stuff. Something simple, a favorite bangle and ring, will do the trick. Finally, the flat in a leopard print adds some interest to the look. You can go with a neutral, this is just one way you get to take what is deemed a 'basic' look and elevate it a bit.

The ONE thing you need to know: Rectangle body types can get away with almost anything really. That's generalizing a bit, but your straight shape lends itself to being molded all sorts of stylish ways. The one thing you need to keep in mind is volume on the sweater. As mentioned earlier, you don't want that sweater to fall too far below your hips. You could bring it to a tailor to have it hemmed or you could opt for another option. Length is one consideration, shape is another. If there's too much fabric and volume, but the length is fine, you could always layer over a thicker cardigan or soft blazer that is tailored to fit closer to your body. This additional layer will pull everything in for you, and while it's doing that, it will definitely upgrade the look from basic-weekend, to a more polished variation on the theme.

The Rectangle Body type can handle the draping going on with the cowl neckline and the volume on the sweater. But if there's too little structure on top AND bottom, then you fall into a column-like look. Cue: the streamlined jean to hug a bit where you want it to and a scarf to also help balance out proportions. With some height, the flats work. If you want to dress it up or elongate, go with a heel via a pump, sandal, or boot. The rest of the look is all about keeping the accessories neutral.
