Weekend Warrior Shopping List | vol. 2 Shoes, shoes, & more shoes

It's Weekend Warrior Shopping List time, and this weekend, it's all about shoes, specifically the top ten hit list of our favorite pumps and sandals out there (all under $200). After sifting and scouring through hundreds of shoes from our top shopping sites, this curated mix of picks is our best of the best.

Saturday's are meant for relaxing and to me, 'relaxing' means NOT fighting my way through weekend traffic and crowds to cross off lines on my always-changing (read: growing) shopping list.

Whether it's your shopping starting point or final destination, the Weekend Warrior Shopping List is here to save you time so you can spend it doing exactly what your heart desires. Give yourself permission to work on that 'you-shaped' dent in the couch for a few hours, curl up with that book you keep meaning to read, get your face in the sun, or go grab a drink with a friend you've been trying to catch up with for weeks.

The Shopping List | 10 Handbags You Need to See

When the concept of handbags comes to mind, I can't think of a better way to illustrate the difference between straight men and women. To the ladies, the handbag is a crucial addition to any look. Not only do we rely on these puppies to carry our lives in them throughout the day, but a handbag can make or break an entire outfit in seconds flat.

The pedestal we put our handbags on will forever be an enigma to the straight men in our lives. Sure, they 'get it,' as far as functionality goes, but beyond that, trying to explain to a man why you need more than one brown and one black bag is like trying to pull off a four inch platform heel for a night out in San Fran. It's an exercise in futility.

We've found ten handbag picks and lined them up for today's shopping list. They run from deceivingly versatile clutches to an everyday black bag you'll wonder how you lived without. Sounds melodramatic, but we've all been there before. Shop on:

The shopping list covers the external. The zen-moment quote covers the internal. It's the yin and yang I love to encourage so here we go with another goodie I discovered at an incredibly relevant time.

Have you ever been in a book store and just wandered around until you find yourself at a random rack when all of a sudden, a book jumps into your eye line in front of all the others? You know what I mean, it's as if your hand is magnetically drawn in it's direction and so you pick it up, flip it open to a random page, and find yourself reading a passage as if it was meant for you to read it right at that very moment. Timing right?

As I scrolled through my latest feeds and found the below quote, the process felt remarkably similar to my book store adventures of the past (I haven't been in one for years unless it's a random used book store, love those). It jumped right out when I found it. Or did it find me? I always wonder about that...

zen moment1

This one is simple and yet I forget it all the time. I was going to go off on a tangent about friendships and recent events but then realized, that's not why I chose this one.

Actions speak louder than words. If you say you want something and don't take actions, large or small, to move towards your desire, then highly likely that you don't really want it and/or don't believe you can have it/deserve it.

On top of that, it's never about the 'thing' you want. It's about what you believe that 'thing' will make you feel.

When I truly want something, to feel a certain way, it takes more than just the desire to get what I want, it takes belief that it's possible. And therein lies the tricky part. Sometimes the belief just isn't fully there. It's up to us to act, a little bit every day, and walk towards what we want whether we can see how it will happen or not. It's our job to put our left foot in front of our right.

With every uncertain step comes just the teeniest, tiniest bit of confidence to take the next small step. Belief begins to grow and that is when you begin to find your way. That's when I have at least. There's always an excuse waiting, those are easy. But if you really want something, you'll make it happen.

And here's the best part, it is your choice. Every day when you go to work, to the job you may or may not love, or put up with a person in your life you know doesn't have your best interest in mind, it is YOUR choice. It's a pain in the ass at times, but it's also one of the greatest things about being alive. Chose wisely. And if you can't make up your mind, your body may very well lead you in the right direction.

To get what you want, act. To believe you can get what you want, act. Keyword: act. And then, when you get to where you're going just ask how you can give back and help someone else find their way. Maybe it's a phone call, maybe it's a blog post, you just never know.

The Shopping List | 10 Reasons (@ $100 & Under) Why You Need a New Pair of Earrings

Throwing on a pair of earrings before you head out the door can be a genius move. I have my jewelry organized and visible in my closet (I set it up like a boutique in there) but also keep a little bowl right on the kitchen counter with a few pieces in it as well. This is my mad-dash-out-the-door grab-it-and-go bowl. I know, lengthy title, but it's one of the best routines I've started.

Earrings have been used to adorn our lovely lobes since the dawn of time, well not that far back, but for a very, very long time. Men and women all over the world have embellished with earrings for centuries and for good reason. First of all, ear lobes are just asking for it, am I right? Secondly, wearing the right pair can frame your face, light it up a bit, and I have yet to meet someone who wouldn't welcome a little bit of that into their everyday look.

Earring obsession aside, take a look at the top 10 ear-candy shopping list. The hit list is a beautiful thing with every pick hitting at or under $100 so have at it. Click through to get all the details. Or just scroll, browse, find something similar in your closet that you can pull out when you get home, and start your own grab-it-and-go jewelry bowl. I love to include a Zen Moment in these shopping list posts. Fashion, although an extension of who you are on the inside, mainly covers the outside part of the equation. Balance is tricky, I don't think we ever get there and I think that's a good thing. That little bit of instability keeps us always learning and evolving. Still I'll always attempt a little balance via quotes, images, and whatever else I can find that resonates to cover what's on the inside.

My intention in sharing these finds with you is simple: I hope wherever you're reading this, that you are inspired. To do what? Who knows. That part is up to you entirely.

Let's give it  a try:

zen quote1

This is a big one for all of the self-employed, small business owners out there. I chose it because it's beyond relevant in my own life (it IS my life right now) and hit me like a ton of bricks. But the concept is a universal one.

When you come up with an 'impossible' idea (and we all do, we're all capable of this) it's easy to classify it as just that and stick it back into the never-going-to-happen box, or worse, the I'll-look-at-it-again-tomorrow (translation=never) box. This is when genuine support comes in handy. It takes a village.

You don't get an encourgaing, "you're on the right track, keep going!" from these ideas. There's no certainty, no clearly defined next step to take. That is up to you. This is the beautiful and ridiculous part of it all. And this is why it's so important to have your 'board.'

You get to pick and choose who is on your board of directors, so my advice that you didn't ask for is, choose wisely. Go with people who know more than you, who want to see you do well (genuinely), and who will give you honest feedback. It doesn't hurt to have a few on there that will come back to you with an, "everything is going to be ok," now and then either. It comes in handy.

With that kind of support, unimaginable things are realized. It's never as complicated as you think it is. But if you never try, you'll never know (another favorite line; thank you Coldplay).

The same holds true for fashion. We've all looked at a dress, top, [insert your drool-worthy item spotted in a store window, glossy mag, or e-catalog here], and thought, "there's no way I could pull that off." Well, I ask you, how do you know unless you try? It starts with believing and often times, it helps to have a good 'board' in your corner to keep that belief alive when doubt sinks in, because it will.

But doubt is the best. It's going to show you what you're really capable of. Things don't happen to you, they happen for you. I forget that ALL the time.

So, go ahead, try the dress on. Ask around about your 'not-so-impossible' idea. Give yourself a little credit here, you're stronger than you think (this is what my yoga teacher always tells me when I feel like I'm about to die in warrior 2; she's always right, I'll admit it).

Oh and one more thing, ladies, when you DO try the dress on and stand in front of the mirror, find something you like about yourself. Re-read that last sentence. Let it sink in. I know you'll find a lot of what you don't like, I get it, trust me. It's what we do, but it doesn't have to remain a pattern.

My challenge to you is to look at what you have, not what you don't. Focus on that and bring that feeling outside of the dressing room and into your life.

Again, you can thank me later.

Online Shopping List | 20 Just-In Picks This Week

Good 'online shopping list' morning StyleShakers. It's about that time again.

Welcome to the edited, super-condensed, Cliffs Notes (if you will) online shopping list serving up 20 of my top picks from my top shopping spots out there. Thousands of pieces of merchandise hit the virtual floors every week, scratch that, every day. I should know, I managed millions of dollars worth of said 'merch' for Neiman Marcus (in-store and then online) for oh ya know, just a few years (translation: ten).

On the e-comm side of things we quickly realized that the highest click-thrus on our product pages were found right at the 'VIEW ALL' link. And, if you follow the analytics, you'd then see another pattern develop. After clicking on 'VIEW ALL,' browsing would go for about two solid pages of merchandise (about 200-400 pictures of product) and go bye-bye or to another part of the site. The goal was obviously to get the customer to exactly where she/he wanted to go in an inordinately small amount of time (one must factor in the A.D.D. culture we live in), but one can only take so much new product before getting overwhelmed and moving on to something else. Attentions are tough to hold these days.

That's the game. There's plenty more to it, let alone more qualified analytical e-commerce minds out there that can spell it out for you far better than I can. But essentially, that's what's up.

Enter: The StyleShaker and my personal shopping services that have me scouring the web every day for the right pieces to fill in wardrobe 'holes' and/or update things a bit.

I'm here to edit, weed out and boil things down to give you the perfect shopping starting point using not one site, but ALL of my top shopping spots on the web (a 'hit list' I've been developing over the past six years). This is your shopping starting line that should save you time and hence, money (not to mention, I love a good markdown as much as the next girl when I find them).

There are 20 favorites (reminder: these selections are completely unbiased) below pulled from just a few sites (I go little by little; check out last list), but the list doesn't end there. Check out the Closet (link below) to keep the shopping momentum going strong. For now, check out my top 20 online shopping list picks of 'just in' fashion favorites:

Bag Obsessed | Check Out My Top 10 Handbags under $250.

Two years in a designer handbag buying office at Neiman Marcus does something to a person. Sure, I'm a bit warped, I can admit it. A $695 price tag on a handbag was far from gasp-worthy to me back then. Actually, I'd see that price and think, "deal!" I know, I said it was warped didn't I?

Did I spend $695 on a bag? No, I had access to samples sales. When you work in retail you never pay retail. And evidently, when you leave corporate retail, that stays with you. Well, I can only speak for myself, so I'll say, it stayed with me.

Handbags are tricky. It is not an easy feat in fashion to find a great (read: original aesthetically speaking) looking bag under $500.   You don't have to throw down a mortgage payment, but I still believe a handbag is where you should invest (read: up to $500, it's my new normal).

If you're going to invest it would help to have some shopping direction from a fashion-industry veteran, let alone personal stylist right? So, here I am. Get excited because I've found 10 amazing handbag picks from my favorite names out there (at my favorite shopping spots) that fall well under the $500 mark.

montage template

Today's top 10 shopping list of handbags show everything you'd ever want/need/lust for in a bag for under $250. No, seriously, under $250. If you get a great leather bag and take care of it (find your favorite cobbler spot, they can make anything look new again) you will have it for the rest of your days. Spending a bit more is worth it. It's hard to swallow at times, but it's the truth. I tell my clients this, and of course, I 'walk the talk' myself in my own wardrobe.

Take this top 10 shopping list and use it as a starting point. If you see something you love, click the pic to see more details. If you're getting warmed up and want to continue the handbag shopping, there's a link below to the mother-load of all handbags (favorite  bags from my favorite sites out there) living along the virtual shelves of the StyleShaker Closet.
