Review of the ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara

Review of the Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara

ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara- $28.00

Here’s the quick SCORECARD breakdown. Each question is rated on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the best:

1. How do the ingredients look (EWG.org ratings)?- 4: Lots of ingredients are “3” or under, but there's more than a handful of 3's like Potassium Sorbate, etc. which could potentially be irritating.

2. What about clumps?- 5: I didn’t see any clumps and I tried multiple coats, plus another instance using primer underneath. Zero clumps!

3. Does it have a high-impact effect/multiply lashes?- 4: Yes, but it’s not super high drama. I'd say it wins on fanning out the lashes and lengthens well. It’s a more full, yet natural look.

4. Does it lengthen?- 3: I wouldn’t say it lengthens like a rockstar, but it does add noticeable length!

5. What about flaking?- 5: I saw no flakes after wearing this mascara for an entire day (and working out in it). Super impressive!

6. Is it non-irritating?- 4: My eyes were fine, but there are a couple of ingredients in here that may irritate sensitive eyes and I’ve read that in other reviews.

7. How conscious is the brand? 2- This brand states that it is organic, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and the packaging is sustainable “whenever possible.” Almost good enough, but not quite there for me re: sustainability. See what the brand said to additional questioning from me below…

FINAL SCORE:

YOU’LL LOVE THIS IF:

  • You’re looking for a more natural, fanned-out look on your lashes

  • You don’t have overly sensitive eyes or skin

  • You’re cool with $28 (I think it’s reasonably priced compared to others I’ve tried)

  • You’re ok with the possibility that it “may contain” Titanium Dioxide. This isn’t currently deal-breakers for me, but they are for some and I 100% respect that. It’s a personal decision! Speaking of…

  • UPDATE on packaging and sustainability from the brand - I sent this question: “Is the packaging of this mascara made from 100% recyclable material and also 100% recyclable?”

Ilia’s response: “Our aluminum mascara tubes is 80% recycled aluminum. We do what we can to use recycled materials when it is safe to do so! Any of our components that are plastic are recyclable (for example- the inside bits of the mascara!), but are not made of recycled material as we are unable to verify its original source and therefore the properties it was made out of (as to avoid leaching of chemicals it came into content prior to our labs)."

IFFY INGREDIENTS + EWG RATING:

These were the not-so-great ingredients that didn’t pass the Rule of 3. Click below to find out all the details:

TIP: Percentage matters. It wasn’t listed on the label. I always recommend, if you’re still on the fence, ask the brand “what’s inside?”

With mascara on the left. Without on the right.

FINAL VERDICT:

Would I recommend this product to a friend and buy it again myself? Yes, I’d recommend this to someone that doesn’t have issues with sensitivity and is into a more natural looking, multiplied look (not high-drama lashes). I loved it and would buy it again! It reminds me of the Hynt mascara, but a little less natural than that. If you DO want to amp things up you could try:
